Title: Chill 3rd. Edition vs. Cryptworld
Post by: Batjon on August 02, 2021, 06:23:49 AM
Which version of Chill do you prefer between Chill 3rd. edition and Cryptworld and why? These are the only 2 editions I'm looking at currently.

Also, I'd like to look at this in terms of preference in things like setting and mechanics.

Well, as you know, I haven't played Chill 3e yet. I played the Mayfair edition a bunch back in the day.

Personally, I'm loving Cryptworld right now mostly for the flexibility of what you can do with it: modern-day X-Files style, something historical, players as investigators, reporters, or some other setting entirely. Yes, the Pacesetter system can be clunky, but it means that anything produced for Chill 1e is easily modified to work with Cryptworld. That, along with the various supplements published by Goblinoid Games, means there is plenty of support for a campaign.

Some say the tone of Cryptworld is more 80s-style horror, but it varies depending on the adventure and the players. Some of the games I've run feel like 90s and 2000s horror and suspense. Others have more of a classic feel.
