This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Cha'alt and Venger banned from local game store

Hate to say it. But BGG may be another place to let people know your convention is going.

Have you pimped VengerCon to your Kickstarter backer lists?

Also, pimp it to every reviewer who reviewed any of your books.

Post on EVERY online game con listing.

Do you have a Farcebook and InstaCrack pages?  If not, pimp it there too.

Don't spend a dime unless you have to. Far better to spend sweat equity for marketing.

I do like the idea of 100 Tix-Only Kickstarter. You could throw in Venger PDFs as bonuses for attendees.

If I wasn't across the nation (and refusing to wear a face diaper to fly), I'd run a full slate of games at VengerCon! It sounds like its gonna be great fun.

Good advice, Omega and Spinachcat...

Yeah, I have lots of work to do next week!  Also, I'm really hoping air travel lifts the mask mandate travel restrictions.

Thanks,

Venger, what's the status of VengerCon?

It's happening.  Numbers are still low (18 out of 100).  Next week, I'm going to run some advertisements to help get the word out.  If we haven't reached at least 40 attendees (the magic number) by May, I'll run a short Kickstarter to help get us to the break-even point so I'm not losing money on the convention.

If you're wondering about specific events and game sessions, there's a thread on this forum about VENGER CON with details.  Also, this link: https://tabletop.events/conventions/venger-con-2022

I hate trying to offer advice but I think you have two options here: the first, is to offer a bit more than just playing games. Get an RPG/Geek Stuff Swap Meet going. Have some kind of a show. Something!

Do lots of local advertising, not just online, because in most cons a pretty significant number of attendees will tend to be local or regional. There's no point telling me about it, because unless you or someone else is paying my plane & hotel costs, I'm too far away to go there. Get it?

Hey, an RPG swap meet is actually a great idea!  Yesterday, I had another idea... perform a magical ritual related to RPGs (probably having to do with Cha'alt).  Those who want to participate, can do so.  Otherwise, attendees can simply observe or skip it.  Not sure which night this will happen, most likely Saturday after all the sessions have concluded.

Indeed, local advertising is the name of the game.  Starting that on Monday.

Do you have space for a vendor area? Offering table space for a fee can help defray costs a little depending. I've seen table space range all over the place in cost. Some cons seem to think that vendors are rich and way overcharge for even a small table.

An artist area might be an idea too. Local or fly ins will sometimes rent table space to sell prints or do art on the spot.

I'm having one table for the collective wares of those attending.  So, my Cha'alt books will sit right alongside Ankur and those of other content creators.  VENGER CON is also about no fees.  Once you pay for a ticket, everything else (outside of food, drink, and lodging) is free.

Then consider at least a small fee for vendor table space. Helps cut costs and might weed out any low level scammers. Though for a really small con probably not yet worth the extra paperwork.
