Onth the Dwarf awoke to find the party being accosted by a Gibbering Mouther! Unfortunately when I asked where everyone was sleeping, he chose to be by the door. He is a brave warrior! The NPC Ranger drew the first volley of attacks, but Onth rolled an "attack nearest creature" on a round of confusion which happened to be the Gibbering Mouther. Now he was toe-to-toe with non-Prime WIS save and barely the wit to stay in control of his faculties.
After a couple more rounds of confusion punctuated by one deliberate strike, Onth was eventually struck by 3 mouth tentacles simultaneously and was engulfed! Before his friends could kill the interloping thing, Onth was devoured by the foul abberant's 12 automatic mouth attacks. We mourn Onth, he was... unique.
In related news - we are enjoying the hell out of this game! Onth's player took his character's death in stride, made another character in about ten minutes and I had his new Knight hooked up with the group in about 15 min. I'm running a dungeon crawl using The Dungeon under the Mountain maps from 0One Publishing. You can read some of the hilarious player logs made on our Obsidian Portal site.

I'm enjoying the speed of combats, the ease of ruling on Ability use, and the creativity my players are showing in play. I have a few house rules (you can read those on the OP site), and even that tuning was easy to implement. I feel like C&C will be my Go To D&D game in the foreseeable future.
No, no, no, you're supposed to spend fifteen pages weeping about how the dwarf was deprotagonized.
Poor deprotagonized Onth. :(
C&C is a good game. If I had a group that wanted AD&D instead of OD&D, I'd run C&C for them. I've run it with Planescape and it was fun.

If that is slang for "chewed to pieces like a pile of leaves under a giant lawn mower" than yeah, he was seriously deprotagonized. :-D We didn't weep however. We were too busy laughing at his untimely demise. After his Knight was introduced, he decided to release some of the Hobgoblins' prisoners to the discontent of the party. They left him to find a way around the Goblin King's throne room and he managed to rescue a half-cyclops. They caught up quickly and the Cleric of St. Luther healed the poor chap up. This new companion is now loyal to Sir Corbin to whatever ends awaits them. That player was not missing Onth much once we dived into the thick of it. He now gets to play a Knight AND an imposing one-eyed smasher in combat!

Agreed. C&C is my AD&D replacement go-to and it's a quick game to play. I'm going to play in an 8-hour C&C session at my game store in a few weeks. :)

All is well:) Glad you guys are enjoying C&C.

Wrong forum, Gronan:D!
I am worried about the agency of the Gibbering Mouther. Where does its story lead on? Has anyone even asked?! Stop 'othering' the Gibbering Mouther! And don't you dare assume its pronoun!
Your party should consider taking up beaded jewelry as a means to be inclusive with other beings you may encounter. Everyone deserves the right to feel pretty. Gibbering Mouthers are worthy of bling, too.

It died with several shiny arrow bolts and slashes adorned with the livery of a stalwart Dwarven Warrior! A kindness rarely shown in these parts!!
Also, The Gibb (as he's known in these hallowed halls...) is represented by Aberration Talents, one of THE finest non-human talent agencies in the multiverse. The Gibb's family is entitled to the free AD&D/Life Insurance payout which, by Aberant standards, is a considerable sum. AT is always looking for motivated out-of-the-box non-human talent, so look us up in The Book of Things, we have YOUR next career just waiting for you!
Next time I run anything, I must remember to warn the players that in this campaign, being deprotagonized might happen by random dice rolls.
C&C, like Palladium (thinking of Rifts and HU here) is one of those flawed gems, that I've mostly rejected for games that better suit my GMing style and constraints, but which still tug at the strings of my heart and beckon to be revisited some day. Glad you're having fun; our group, too, had a great run with it.

"Protagonism mechanics? Nah. I'll handle the mechanics and you guys bring your own protagonism."

They certainly are.
(A Gibbering Mouther is a girl who talks a lot while she's giving you a blowjob, right?)
