This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Kickass work Jeff!!! Congrats your whole team, GMs and volunteers. This is impressive. How do you get the venue? Is that gifted or does the venue rental have to come out of the money raised?

jeff37923

End of night one total raised, $3200.

Tomorrow starts at 9:00AM.....

We were lucky with the venue. Second Harvest Food Bank has a warehouse building with two large rooms used to sort and pack food that is donated so that it can be cataloged and stored. When not in use for that purpose, those two sorting rooms can be used for holding events. So, no overhead for venue rental.

(I have to look it up, but I think that the cost of allowing a venue to be used for a charity event can be written off as a loss and a tax deduction.)

Day 2 of Save vs Hunger

About the same number of people, just spread out between twelve tables instead of ten. Lots of networking going on.

Even Cthulhu gets the munchies.

Luckily, he had a bag of C'heetos handy.....

Ugh. I am going to have to pack it in because I am exhausted. I work a third shift job and staying awake during the day kills my sleep schedule.

There will be few more updates, but I still have to drive home and I do not want to fall asleep at the wheel.

It's incredibly awesome for you and all those there for doing this.  My hat's off to all of you.

Final amount raised for Second Harvest Food Bank, $4075.

Last One.

This is Jay Anderson, I'm a 38 year old software developer.  I was the organizer for the D&D Adventurers League at the convention.  I've been involved with Save Versus Hunger since last year after Aaron approached me looking for me offer the new 5E D&D playtest content to gamers and I've been back ever since.

We were the second highest turnout.  I feel it is because we had a lot of people who were interested in getting back into gaming and with D&D starting its new 5th edition, people saw it as an opportunity to get in on something from the start.

I hope this convention can grow over the years as the charity hits a little close to home with me.  When I was growing up, my family had lots of struggles and I remember only being able to eat some nights because of some items we had been given by local food banks.  Second Harvest tells us that every $1 donated creates 3 meals.  So I'm very happy that we can help generate a lot of meals by just by coming together and enjoying some tabletop RPGs.

My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

Hot damn! Power to the geekage!

I hope your crew inspires another city to launch their own Save vs. Hunger.

Quote from: jeff37923;812190We were lucky with the venue.

That's awesome. I wonder how many other cities have that option. Venue costs / venue insurance is often a problem expense unless you have free access like your charity or if another venue would make the rental into their donation which is tougher.

That's because he smokes all that non-Euclidean weed so he can conquer the Dreamlands.
