This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Can you run wargame like combat with Fudge?

I hear some interesting things about Fudge. But I was wondering if you can bust out the miniatures and run an engaging tactical combat with the system.

I've always found combat to be a good time sink and everyone seems to like it.

Look up Diaspora, which was for Fudge-derived Fate 2e (pre-FATE Core). That had a tactical combat system in it.
Currently running: Tyche\'s Favourites, a historical ACKS campaign set around Massalia in 300BC.

Yes but it is a toolkit so you will have to roll your own rules to make it happen. And be warned a +1 is a significant advantage due to the steepness of the bell curve of 4dF.

I took my own stab at it here. Used miniatures and grids during the playtest.

The game as-is?

No.

But FUDGE can be highly modified.

Yeah, while reading the rules, I'm already starting to think of my own hacks, which I think is kind of the point of the system.

For example, instead of ±1 for every situational bonus, you could instead impose degrees of advantage and disadvantage where you reroll -'s or +'s a number of times depending on your situation.

Yes, it is the one feature of FUDGE/FATE that makes it redeemable. Not just redeemable, but with the right mods really useful.
