This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Whatever Happened to This?

Quote from: One Horse Town;934679Ah, Runequest 6. Shame.

Wow, you are the only person I've ever encountered who would react like that to Runequest 6, what I consider the gold standard of fantasy RPG systems. But I'll see if this thread doesn't bring more people of that opinion out to quell my surprise...

Edit: oh, wow, huh. Its just about money. Well, add another layer of surprise.

Mythras is $40.00 USD for a 300pg hardcover and pdf is bundled in.
That's actually good pricing, compared to competitors, isn't it?
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

Looking at both, it's about 157 pages difference, and honestly, I think a lot of that can be chalked up to layout.
First, the font is noticeably smaller, to the point where I would pay more for the old size font, because my eyes suck.
Second, RQ6 had large margins, sidebar size, and most of them were blank.
Third, every new chapter page in RQ6 started with a blank space, title, then text, Mythras is just title then text, so saving a quarter to third of a page every chapter.

For example, a real quick comparison of the Folk Magic Chapters, the only difference I can see is elimination of any text relating to the "Runes" of Glorantha.
RQ6 - 14 pages
Mythras - 9 pages

Reading Mythras, I haven't had any "Hey whatever happened to X" moments.

Ah, that's good to hear. I do think 6 was overpriced, but then i'm a skinflint! :D
