This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Original paperback is pretty pricey when you can find it. But they did a nice reprint when the dvd was released. It's not so bad.

If you follow that Amazon link, you can find some other paperbacks and some comics.
Employment Counselor: So what do you like to do outside of work?
Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.
EC: My cousin killed himself because of role-playing games.
OG: Jesus, what was he playing? Rifts?

Ah!
I didn't know that it had finally got a reprint.

Mine is the original orange & black cover - looking much like the Team Banzai logo. Its pretty weather-beaten and worn now.

Ghost Whistler

Quote from: Koltar;469476NO , IT WASN'T.

The scriptwriter had over 40 other Buckaroo Banzai stories that he had typed up over the years sitting at his home when he was writing the script for the movie.

The paperback book novel of the movie (NOT an 'adaptation') had five times more story included and footnotes on various pages that referred to at least ten other past adventures of the group.

Name another Buckaroo Banzai movie, the year it was released and, for extra credit, a link to where I can buy it on, say, Amazon, for instance.

Most movie novelisations have more story. Doesn't mean much. Gene Roddenberry's print adaptation of ST:TMP goes into much more detail (sensory implants allowing Kirk to see the Klingon fleet get wiped out before Starfleet contact him).

The question is: would it have been better to do a completely user-owned modern pulp IP?
"Ghost Whistler" is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Parental death, alien battles and annihilated worlds.

I don't think so. Buckaroo Banzai is essentially modern Doc Savage, but it's its own, special thing. I think the market for the game is the movie's cult following.

Quote from: beeber;469000interested, but only vaguely curious about the system.  i'd buy it for sourcebook purposes.

I totally agree. I wonder if it'll use the Odyssey System? From what I've read about it on the Far West site, it seems rather sweet.

Buckaroo Banzai???

Really??? Now that's some super-niche 80s nostalgia. My buddy loves BB so he'll be thrilled.

Does BB have a cult following of note? I don't remember seeing it show up in the LA film revivals.

Buckaroo Banzai game...did it go the way of Far West or is it real?

Funny you should mention Far West, same writer. Same fat pile of nada.

Actually, that's why I asked...I preordered BB back in...was it 2012?...demanded and rcv'd a refund sometime last year. Was wondering if it was still a thing or dead or buried in obfuscations like Far West.

I believe he buries in obfuscation as you put it. Except talked about even less than Far West, if at all by Sarka. Tenkars Tavern usually has rants about the latest BS from Gareth.

Buckaroo Banzai is in the same limbo with Far West and ICONS Team-Up.  None of those will ever see the light of day.  Thankfully, I only ever pre-paid for ICONS Team-Up so I'm only out about $30, IIRC.  Oh, but GMS did say that he'd give me credit towards one of his other future books... BWAHAHAHAHA.

A fun site tracking the delivery date promises for Far West. Really glad I wasn't a part of this one.

Hilarious. He could have bought an original version and copied it out by hand in Sanskrit by now.
