This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Really, people, KS' foolish and self destructive business practices may make people sigh, shake their heads and roll their eyes, but people who want the company to die just to taunt the players make me want to bitch slap them.

I just think Palladium to die not because I want to dance on their grave, I simply thinking badly run companies should go out of business.  I dont care if you are a game company, a bike store and or any other kind of buisness, bad businesses should fail, it's just the way business is.

Palladium is a poorly run company only being kept together by Kevin's excuses and fund raising.   Palladium isn't a charity and should not be fund raising to stay in business.

Other game businesses (Such as Steve Jackson Games) ran into trouble and were able to come back without lies and fund raising.   Why can't Palladium?  Because Kevin is a shit businessman.

Such obsessive behavior can be amusing at times, especially when it is one sided (ie. like unrequited love or the opposite).

Quote from: Daedalus;391806Yes, yes they do.  Look, I am not going to continue to debate this point.

Palladium players have a certain type of game style that comes from the type of games they play (Palladium's games).   They are poor gamers and I do not want to game with them.

You can debate this all you want, they will never be allowed in my group and if someone gets in my group who is Palladium fan they will get kicked out right away.

Gaming is supposed to be fun, and I would rather quit the hobby and play MMORPGS then play with Palladium Gamers, I like to game with high quality gamers and Palladium gamers, sadly are a low quality of gamer.

So no, I am not going to shut up and accept everyone because the hobby can't afford to lose gamers.   I want my gaming to continue to be fun and I am going to keep out gamers who would ruin my fun.   In this case, Palladium players.  They can play with their own kind, not in my group.

Pundit plays Palladium.  So you wouldn't play with him?

I've listed my credentials as a gamer and I play Palladium too.  So you wouldn't play with me either?

You do understand why almost everybody in this thread, even people who (pretty much rightfully) hate the Palladium game system and Kevvy for being the royal douchebag that he is are effectively calling you Hell's Biggest Asshole right?

Quote from: Daedalus;391806Look, I am not going to continue to debate this point.

And we no longer have to debate the point that you are an asshole. You've proven that. Moving on...

I don't wish to see Palladium die out of spite for it's fanboys. I just think it's time has come and gone. I don't care for it's policies, it's products, or it's atmosphere of sycophantism. Actually I don't want to see it "die". I'd rather see it run compitently. By that I mean growing and changing with the times, evolving. But if it must continue as is, then no, let it die. It will always hold a place in the history of gaming, but it doesn't seem to have a hope in hell of holding a place in the future as it is run currently. I'm just waiting for that big meteor strike to finish them off. And depending on which direction all this litigation takes, that may be approaching.

Not really.
Trion is looking to invalidate several rellevant Trademarks from Palladium, which if successful, means "Auto-Win" for Trion.

Palladium has re-filed in California, but the next court date is set in Sept, IIRC.

I suspect this will be quiet for some time, as both sides build their cases.

So what are the more far-reaching repercussions if Trion does in fact invalidate those trademarks? Aside from KS's head exploding.

I think that will be the end as far as KS and Palladium are concerned.

At this point, KS is only in the RPG biz to keep his Rifts property alive so he can license it and (he believes) become rich.  If the Rifts trademark is invalidated as it pertains to movies and video games, then his entire purpose for keeping everything going will be gone.   Really, everything that KS has done for the past 15 years is oriented around finding freelancers to write any old thing for Rifts so that it keeps looking like a living franchise.  When KS writes something, you can tell, because it shows an active disdain for RPGs, players, and the hobby in general.

I think he would ideally want to close up shop with a long winded speech about how he was too good for the RPG industry and how his fans betrayed him.  He might ask some of his "true believers" to please not kill themselves as Palladium closes it's doors.  ::wink, wink, nudge, nudge::

How can a company like Palladium (which was recently just begging for money) afford a lawyer for pointless lawsuits like this?

Just throwing this out there for speculation but maybe he's got a friend who is an attorney and does it pro bono?  Or during the last money round-up someone who is an attorney and just happens to be a Palladium fan stepped forward to help?

Or, alternately, he found a lawyer who works on contingency?

Just a few thoughts.
