This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

But rest assured, they will be tears of Mega-Damage.
Such is the cross to be borne by those in love of something over-the-top juvenille....and brave/foolish enough to come out of the closet. :haw: I recommend you study the Way of the Master, Dr. Rotwang, to see yourself through this dark hour not only unscathed but uplifted. :keke:

I feel your pain, though I'm not quite as big a fan as you are. :D

Yeah, Rifts is getting a bit of a hammering at the moment.

You know what the solution is, right?

Post your own votes and tear the suckers down with you. :D
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

In defense of RIFTS .....

The most attractive regular customer we have is a RIFTS GM and player. She is brunette and has blue eyes, gorgeous smile, 29 years old, loves to paint miniatures,....... and you'll have to move to Ohio to find out more....

Now If I ever try RIFTs - it will be because she asked me to try a game of it .

1. GURPS
2. Werewolf (both oWoD and nWoD)
3. HERO
4. Weapons of the Gods
5. Shadowrun 4th (and only cuz of the hacking and magic rules; I love everything else about it)

What if it happens to be someone's favorite game?

Alright, let me try and put these in order.
1 = most hated.
10 = least hated.

1. NWoD Mage
Everything that was great and good about the old mage is shat upon from a great height to be replaced by an extremely boring and absolutist gameworld that is limp, insipid and unengaging. Its top of the hate parade because of the sheer love for the old version (pre revised).

2. NWoD Vampire
Much the same reasons for loathing the new Mage. Uninspired and unenthusiastic, plus I hated the graphic design.

3. OWoD Demon the Fallen
Yeah, lets contradict everything previously published in a way that makes absolutely no sense and reassert a Judeo Christian cosmology when we've been moving away from that since Vampire. That'll go down well.

4. Star Wars d20 (In fact, d20 for anything other than D&D really).
If anything outside D&D should have actually fit d20 you'd think it might be the quintessential space fantasy, but no. The slowness and boring predictability of d20 robs the game of any sense of urgency or heroics.

5. Heroes Unlimited deserves special mention for 'teh suxxor' as well.
Templated heroes, crapper than usual art and the Palladium system. Ugh.

6. RIFTS (In fact, all Palladium, though we managed to have fun with TMNT for a while).
Lose the system and turn down from 12 to 11 out of 10 on the dial and we'll talk.

7. CP3
Major disappointment on all counts, completely ignored the literary post cyberpunk movement and awful graphic design to boot. Ugh.

8. Manhunter
Strontium Dogs after being vampirised by some sort of awesome leeching bloodsucker leaving nothing cool in its wake.

9. Obsidian
Kult, but in the future. The rules bugged this piss out of me and it was too claustrophobic.

10. Rolemaster (though I like MERP, which was RM 'lite').
My god, its full of tables.

Nah.  Rifts, Palladium, and Kevin S. are topics that seem to inspire a lot of forceful feelings, on one side, or the other.  No harm done.  I'm having fun, and I've gotten a lot of other folks to have fun along with me playing Rifts, PFRPG, Systems Failure, and other lines.  That's what really matters.

Dr Rotwang!

I'm gonna totally go on the record and say that while I don't think I, personally, would ever buy RIFTS, I can totally, totally see why people love it and I ain't gonna hold that against 'em.

One of my favorites movies is Xanadu.  See?

 Xanadu? ??

Okay I don't feel so alone in my weirdness now.
I loved the ELO music used in that movie.

See, someone needs to do a science fiction role-playing game based on '70s and '80s rock album covers by bands like ELO, Journey, and Boston. ;)

Make that corebook 20 bucks or less - and I'd buy it.

I love the animated sequence in the middle.  And the unabashed mid-80's love for skating.

I miss my local skating rink.  It was called Roll-O-Rama.  Which should totally be the name of an RPG club, now that I think about it...
