This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What, the bit from "The Bridge"? I wouldn't have thought so. Now, this, on the other hand...
Quote from: Rebecca Borgstrom in "A Castle That Ceases to Move Soon Dies"It is so obvious in the modern day as to pass without comment that a castle that ceases to move soon dies, and the means by which the castles move is this: the Master of Hooks, whom in the case of Seferi is Claire, selects from the castle armoury a line. This line is oft-times thickly woven silk, and sometimes rope, though on occasion other types are best. The Master of Ropes and Connections hooks this line to the various blocks and tackles and other apparatuses of the castle; this is a complex and difficult arrangement, involving many slaves and servants and a good deal of math, and we shall not dwell on it here. Once the rope is secured, the Master of Hooks chooses a hook to go with it, keeping in mind the circumstances of the time and the arrangement of the rope as the Rope’s Master chose it. This hook is then set to the line and cast deep into the depths, past the waves and past the fire, past the blades and past the mist, down through the twisty purple smoke into the ebon depths of blackness beneath. There—need it be said?—something seizes the hook, something great and terrible, and begins to pull; and if the Master of Ropes and the Master of Hooks have done their jobs well, the castle stirs and its island stirs and they both begins to move. Then for a long time all is speed and jollity, until at last the great beast snaps its line and the castle drifts free; and then momentum will sustain it for some time before it is once again occasioned that the Master of Hooks should choose another line.
...This particular story has obvious shades of Dunsany and Vance.

Nobilis is this site's Exalted.  And I lay the blame square at the feet of the Pundit.  Other deserve some of the blame (GrimGent, I am looking at you), but Pundit is the one starting most of the goddam threads.

RPG Pundit, j'accuse!

More Bulwer-Lytton than Vance, I'd say...

But I shouldn't be arguing about literature, as the last novel I finished was WotC trash, so let's get back into RPGs. And here I have the firm opinion that RPG writing is technical writing. Some game companies are in dire need of a good editor as the writing might be quite inspiring at times, but flawed when it comes to delivering the goods in a clear, concise manner.

So this Borgstrom person is female.  I've learned something today.  :)

I also want to announce that I seriously want to run a Star-Trek/Elric crossover called "BorgStormBringer".

Mr. Analytical

Either that or an RPG based on the life of the Swedish Chef from the muppetts called "Borg Borg Borg!"

Do Crispex really stay crispy in milk?

I don't know but "Borgstrom Wars" sounds really cool.

Borgstrom's short fiction is no better or worse than mid-90s anime fanfiction.

Aside from that, I agree with the little yellow fellow.  We need a new whipping boy if rpgsite is to remain a vital waste of my time.

Quote from: MaddmanI'm convinced that Rebecca is some kind of mad genius.  Want proof?

That's freaking hilarious! Some of the other stuff posted, not so much (and really, the Ducky bit would have been better served by ending where Maddman ended it).

Knightsky

Is anyone else amused by the huge amount of free publicity that the Pundit is giving Nobilis with these threads?

Only in a manner of speaking: "Rebecca" Borgstrom is a MTF transsexual.  Hence some of the confusion.

In no way at all.

The tone and content of those entries, and especially the "legends", varies wildly, from humorous doggerel to horror stories: still, most are characterized by an offbeat sense of whimsy. Getting into the actual continuity might take a bit of effort and reading, though.

I don't have that kind of time. What little reading time I get beyond a few threads here and there I spend reading scripts and gaming books. If someone links something though, sometimes I'll have time to follow the link.
