This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Is Iron Gauntlets metal?

Quote from: Dr Rotwang!I'd rather do the former, because I think your system has merit.
If you want, come up with a specific skill for the crafting ability to inflict different types of fatigue/injury and post it on the collaborative. :D

I don't know too much about IG...is it a "generic" fantasy setting, or is there some sort of setting implicit to the rules? What are its influences? For some reason, I have this weird urge to associate it with manga/anime...I must be getting it confused with something.
Anyone written a decent review that could give me the gist of the system?

Generic from what I read.   The assumed setting and tech level is your standard High Middle Ages fantasy with elves, dwarves, halflings, orclins (half-orc types) and PC goblins.  Throw in the various magic skills, and you have your wizards and clerics and shamans and (with essence magic) monk/jedi/kewl ninjas.   No guns as written, and armour up to full plate.  It uses a 5-position health track for differing types of damage--non-lethal and lethal--with armour absorbing damage per point with a successful die roll.  Weapons damage is fixed rather than a die roll within a range.

The anime bit might an IG-compatible setting called Steampunk Musha, also published by the worthy folks at PiG.  It's apparently a genre cross of Victorian steampunk and Asian fantasy, and reportedly teh awesome by at least one reviewer.  I think there's one on the reviews section of this site.

IG is generic, but there's a published setting -- Amherth, a fairly standard FRPG setting that keeps metaplot and history to a bare minimum, so as to allow individual GMs the room to customize.  It's delightful, loaded with some great ideas (the "Interesting Sites" section is very inspirational and fun) and open to GM addition.  If you get the Iron Gauntlets Expanded Edition, "The Chronicles of Amherth" comes bundled in.

Steampunk Musha, on the other hand, is a setting, and it's one of the best ones I've ever read.  I don't hand out praise like that very freely.  It's interesting, it's exciting, it's fresh, it's multi-faceted and it just plain rocks.  I was literally reading through it thinking, "This thing gets better by the page".  Steam-powered war machines in search of their own kind of individuality and humanity?  Nothing new, but oh so very captivating.

Never!  You can have my Sleep spell when you pry it out of my cold, dead spellbook.  I'm calling the National Spell Association and reporting your ass!

Seriously, though.  I don't own nor have read Iron Gauntlets, but the only folks I hear talking it up are all completely awesome people.

Well, i wouldn't call it manga/anime at all, atleast I never had either really in mind while creating it. Of course, I thank you for remembering SM, and i'm sure you could run it as such if wanting.

If this is the only thing anyone ever said about Steampunk Musha, it would be enough for me. . . thanks so much.
