Title: Big Collaborative Dungeon Thing at The Delver's Dungeon!
Post by: thedungeondelver on August 08, 2009, 01:14:51 AM
Howdy gang!

Looking to get your creative jones on?  Wanna design and contribute a single room to a mega-dungeon, or a whole section?  A whole level?  Got five minutes at lunch and wanna find a resource that will hopefully in the future provide you with a quick adventure for that game you've got coming up that evening?

Well check it out! (http://www.thedelversdungeon.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=648)

Z1 (because nobody's done "Z" yet!) Maze of Darkness is an online, collaborative, forum-based dungeon build project designed to give folks a chance to build a legendary (lejendary?) Castle Greyhawk-like dungeon sprawl.

It's not a contest, there's no deadline, and there's no requirements other than register, and post up some AD&D 1e goodness!

Monsters!  Treasures!  Deathtraps!  Mazes!  Bring your favorite idea seeds and plant 'em and let's get a whole garden growing!

Post away!  C'mon, you know you have an AD&D version of the bowling-ball half pipe trap from Dragons' Lair in an old 3-ring binder someplace! ;)

I'm not at home right now (not for the next few days/weeks), so I'd have a hard time looking at my three-ring binders right now. ;)

That said, I really like the idea, the premise of the dungeon, and might just give it a shot, actually.

How about coming up with an entrance, or a few sets of entrances to the dungeon complex to start? I'd guess there'd be multiple entry points with a megadungeon of that size.

Oh no fear - I'll post some stuff up.

edit: and remember, you can post a single room, a couple of rooms, an entire section, whatever you're comfortable with.

So it's wait and see for now, or I can come up with an entrance as well and we just find out a way to link all that shit together later on?

I could do just that with a wilderness map, for instance.

You can make the entrance, linking the shit together is the "job" (hate using that adjective but there we are) of the folks contributing.

edit: a surrounding wilderness map is OK, too.  But put forth the main effort of your creative drive into the underworld, my man!

I'm not bad at mapping (http://www.enrill.net/images/maps/dunfalcon-1500.jpg), if that may be of any help.

As I said, I still have some stuff to attend to during the next few weeks, but it's going to become more manageable for me as time goes on.

:( I don't have access to the AD&D rules. Otherwise, this idea really appeals to me! I suppose generic ideas and details would not be much use. I will certainly be keeping an eye on it as it progresses though, because great dungeons are always potentially useful, even if conversion is necessary.

However it best works for you.  Go over there and talk about it though! :D

You could download OSRIC v2 for free (http://www.knights-n-knaves.com/osric/). :)

How close is that to first edition AD&D? Does it have all the appropriate tools in it, like the wandering monster tables referred to at the Delver's Dungeon site's guidelines for the Maze of Darkness?

The only reason I mention the wandering monster encounter tables from the Dungeon Masters Guide is to note that the DM running Maze of Darkness should use them - that by default, MoD does not come with a table of its own, unless a room/chamber/etc. designer makes one of their own up.

Otherwise what you need is in OSRIC.

I tried to join your forum, but it wouldn't accept my email address (which ends with the uncommon '.info') :(
