This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Best system & supplements for WWII game?

Quote from: TrevelyanGodlike is a nastily gritty game where death can be very quick, but you can still have PC with a slight edge through the use of special dice (if you even choose to use them).

You can suppliment this with the rules found in Nemesis (as mentioned above) if necessary.
I tried out using Nemesis for a WWII grunts game playing paratroopers in Normandy.  I was less than thrilled with the results -- mostly because the PCs weren't well differentiated and the mostly-fixed damage didn't seem very gritty.  I did use some interesting stuff using the Madness Meters for the horrors of war -- both of being shot at and killing others.  I have some Game Notes online.

Possible replacement for Call of Cthulhu's Sanity rules:

Stress & Trauma rules for GORE* (direct link to PDF)

Haven't fully read it but looks to be between Sanity checks & Madness Meters. May work better for war scenarios.

* a light version of Mongoose Runequest for more modern games; i.e. like Call of Cthulhu

Quote from: Casey777No Man's Land, while a WWI convention adventure, adapts this and other bits of CoC for war situations. Also has some pregenerated soldiers. :pundit:

So yes it could be done, and IMO would work ok to great as is, and if you wanted a bit more explicit support take a look at that adventure (and possibly the insanity supplement).

No Man's Land is great; a friend of mine ran it as a one-shot and we really enjoyed it.

Quote from: Casey777For me it'd likely come down to how much equipment the group would want already statted out and how much difference between weapons.

Not sure how much Godlike does in that regard but (the related?) NEMISIS is pretty lethal from what I've seen (and free). I'd also put in a vote for Call of Cthulhu. Simpler than GURPS, lethal and should have stats for the basic guns. There should be a WWII Delta Green based writeup online that would have more, including vehicles.

Yep, NEMESIS would also work well.  The advantage of Godlike is that all of the weapons, vehicles, etc. are statted up (except aircraft; they are in a supplement somewhere), but it's not like you couldn't get this info elsewhere.  I also agree with the poster who said that any modern game would suffice as long as you had resources for the WW2 stuff.
