This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Best Palladium RPG?

So, I would guess the likely candidates are RIFTS or TMNT, but what do people here think is the best of all the various (separate) RPGs Palladium has put out over the years?

Palladium Fantasy, especially 1e, is the only one I really like. Much of the fluff from 2e is good as well.

Come to think of it, I enjoyed playing a couple of sessions of Beyond the Supernatural, which at the time scratched a horror itch that CoC didn't quite satisfy.

That sums it up for me, too.
The problem is not that power corrupts, but that the corruptible are irresistibly drawn to the pursuit of power. Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito.

I've always had a soft spot for Ninjas and Superspies.  I thought is was a really fun extension of Palladiums goofy level based combat system.  I have good memories of my kung-fu master leaping between tables in a fancy hotel restaurant kicking goons while the rest of the party broke into somebodies room upstairs.

It was self-contained, which I also appreciated.  I like RIFTS, but felt the number of supplements really turned it into a munchkin playland.  On that note, Beyond the Supernatural was also fun.

no one important

First ed. Palladium Fantasy is classic.

I like Nightbane, in particular all the random tables for your character's monster form.

I don't know if it quite counts, since it's not the house system, but it was published by Palladium:  Recon.  Very focused, very good at what it does, and it has a section on 'Tavern Combat.'
Not as dumb as I look, sound, or best testing indicates.  Awful close, though.

ICFTI

i like palladium fantasy 1e, but my vote for best has to go to the valley of the pharaohs.

Shawn Merrow

My favorite three by order.

1. Palladium Fantasy 2nd
2. System Failure
3. Nightbane

Ramrod

RIFTS was always one of those games that frustrated us when playing it but we still enjoyed the hell out of it and return to it once in a while.

Palladium Fantasy (1st ed) was our go-to fantasy system until the coming of WFRPG 2nd ed.

And Nightbane is still my favourite horror game.
Just when I thought I was out...they pull me back in.

Running: Dark Heresy
Playing: Nope
Planning: more stuff for Dark Heresy/Alternity Mass Effect thingy

Settembrini

RIFTS is inseperable from Heroes Unlimited and TMNT. As I found out, only in conjunction do they cover all necessary rules. TMNT has Timelords and TIme Machine Construction Rules as well as a neat Time-Travel concept, and HU has Robot and Vehicle Construction rules.

If RIFTS is understood as encompassing HU, BTS and TMNT (which is actually a HU supplement as is Ninjas & Superspies)...then I say: RIFTS.

Beyond the Supernatural was always my favorite from them. Ninja's and Super Spies was pretty fun to.

Caesar Slaad

Ninjas & Superspies and Mystic China for me.
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

Spinachcat

I gotta go with Mechanoids. All the goodness of PF 1e, but with all the crazy awesome of the science fiction setting.

danbuter

For me, it's Rifts or Palladium Fantasy 2e. I have a ton of books for each, and a lot of playing time.

Xanador

Nightbane is my favorite. I use it more for dark urban fantasy than horror though.

KrakaJak

This is tough, I'm no expert on Palladium Games.

My favorite sessions came from TMNT&OS and Dead Reign.

I think the best game they've put out is Robotech Shadow Chronicles.
