This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

...is your new gatehouse lad, and you're lucky to get it, ye fairy farting pampered entitled not-real-noble-blood having murder hobo of a gobshyte, ye!

Don't get cocky, this just means that orcs now come with siege towers.

lol no it is not finished.
Yeah I know the drawbridge and portcullis arrangement is ass backwards, this was a "what can i build from all this styrofoam and cardboard I've hoarded" rather than a "here is the blueprints for a gatehouse and the required materials why are you not done yet" sort of thing.

There is a working wench that raised lowers drawbridge by turning a bolt, its right atop the box that houses the drawbridge. There will also be one to raise/lower portcullis as well.

Side of the towers are slotted to fit runs of styrofoam "stone" walls, has a prefab notch for it to slide right in. Going good so far. Just slow as I stare at pieces of trash and junk bits and hold them this way and that and try to see what part of the gate house it might be.

Looks like quite an endeavor.  Please keep us updated.

File size limit forces me to post twice more to show winch mechanism.

That is super cool. I love to make Kill Team terrain out of trash. I love it when someone throws away something with motors levers and gears in it as they make for terrific terrain bits.
Well done!

That's looking great! Well done! I've made lots of smaller terrain pieces, usually out of XPS foam, but nothing like that.
Klytus, I'm bored. What plaything can you offer me today?

An obscure body in the S-K System, Your Majesty. The inhabitants refer to it as the planet... "Earth".

Somebody had to say it, so I thought it might as well be me.

Trimming bits atm, I have that urge to be overly ambitious and do a whole castle or whatever but I have to force myself to keep things no larger than this current piece and keep it modular, or I'll never get it deployed to a table for use and would have to section it to get it out of the chamber.

I've got about a 3x3 cube of cardboard and styrofoam and about 6 pringles cans to use up or toss out before I go buy some xps foam and try to make some of those "I can't believe it's not 3d printed pieces" that I've seen several impressive videos about.

The only real selling point for my players on this piece is that I bothered to make it instead of telling them to make it themselves, and that it will have the working gates/drawbridge via turning a bolt or crank. That, and it's literally stuff that was going to be thrown out, so other than a couple days of my hobby-time work they are out nothing if someone wants to get all trebuchet and destroy the gatehouse.

This if nothing else is a great proof of concept, imagine if we bothered to draw it out and bought the materials...we could make a much nicer gatehouse and probably faster too. At least the gate, portcullis, drawbridge arrangement would be in proper order rather than being added later when a player says "ooh you should add a double door...oooh now a drawbridge....ooh put a sauna running water and directv in there too..."

After much deliberation the design committee has shouted a-frame enough that the any further slope on the upper winch house would simply be a vertical wall. The result appears to be the baba yaga's hutt edition of winch housing, fine, whatever, let's give some thought to winch options for the portcullis then do some skinning and painting and decorating. Geeze. Committees are terrible for design btw, thats how we wound up with the portcullis on the outside drawbridge on the inside. Oh yeah still gotta do "double-doors" on the other side too, nearly forgot. Needs done b4 skinning.

Slipshot762

Lot of sloppy glue work, skinning takes on more importance as a result.
