This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Yar, so all this said and done, me swarthies, which system would ye use for yer Pirate Campaign?

Methinks I may use True20 in all likelihoods, but I would also heartily recommend ye finest of gaming books for the life of the sea, GURPS Swashbucklers! Yar har!!

Quote from: Levi KornelsenWe'll be usin' a special form of conflict resolution here, me hearties.  That there be your six-sided die.  And those ten cups there be your shot glasses, with a "+1" on each them.  Now, you're facing down the peril of a kraken.

Show me a roll of seven or better!

I did the talk like a pirate crap last year out of respect to steve jackson, who likes it. Now he can kiss my ass.

As to pirates, there was, I heard, a good pirate game a long, long time ago, during the fabled Golden Age of Gaming back in the 80's (Hey, at least something good happened in the 80's to counter the reign of that prick reagan) called "Pirates and plunder".

A copy of that might help.

Another idea might to be crack open a history book about pirates and find out some of the truth re them. Example: Most pirate ships were very democratic, with the whole crew voting on what course of action to take next. Also many pirate ships ran honest cargo runs and sometimes served as privateers.

During the war of 1812 a french pirate played a major role in the war between america and england.

Pirates were in it for money, and as such were as much businessmen as fighters. So a good pirate game should have some practical econimics in it as well. There were even "pirate ports" like the fabled Port Royale where all sorts of adventures could happen.

As for me, I'd rather do my pirating on a starship with warp drives, stealth tech and beam cannons than a creaky wooden tub with sails and blackpowder guns, so how about a space pirate thread?
