This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So the only time I've heard of the BROSR was on a Youtube channel called The Joy of Wargaming, which covers minis gaming and old D&D.  I've watched a fair bit of that channel and, while the guy is obviously a conservative Christian (and not above poking the liberal bear a bit), I've never seen anything remotely offensive on the channel.   Whether that's because it's fine or if I just wasn't paying attention I don't know.  Does anybody care to comment on the channel in question?

He says he's broSR but I don't think he's the same person that Pundit was talking about. I personally haven't seen anything particularly offensive on that channel and I've watched a fair bit of it.

I've watched a lot of his videos. I've never heard anything offensive there either.

Theory of Games

BrOSR is small potatoes. Their 15 minutes came and went a year ago when they were almost-hot on the Youtube OSR scene. They're only trending (a lil) now because of Pundit. You'll never see people raving about them over on TBP or EnWorld - both sites are The Forge Strikes Back.

Look at the bright side - you weren't banned, just suspended  :D And a lot of cool people have been suspended from Twitter:

  • Twitter Co-founder & former CEO Jack Dorsey
  • Clinical psychiatrist and Free-Speech advocate Jordan Peterson
  • Red-Pill evangelist and international pimp Andrew Tate
  • Former POTUS Donald Trump
  • Rap billionaire Kanye "YE" West
  • Investigative reporter Alex Jones
  • Half of Russia
  • Two-Thirds of U.S. Conservatives
  • Over a billion Chinese accounts "because bots"
  • All Chinese embassies in the U.S.

Pundit, don't worry! Someone will eventually restore order to Twitter!

Tempest in a teapot.  The only winning move is not to engage with these twatwaffles as by engaging with them you give them creedance to their way of gaming.

I read what the BrOSR is and it's using AD&D 1st edition in a bizzare kind of way. Whatever makes them happy and keeps on playing have it and keep posting your garbage on itch.io for those tens of dollars.

If your argument is to stay silent while other prominent people in the hobby DO engage with them, essentially endorsing them while helping them to cover up their racism, I completely disagree.

Was that last sentence directed at me, by the way?

Not to stay silent but to push their nonsense to the fringe and let them stay there.

No it was not directed to you, you sell on DTRPG and are successful at it. Breffro Johnson and their iilk are itch.io dregs.

Ah, OK.

If I was to report the New York Times twitter account and as a result twitter permaed them, whose fault is that?
This is not a defense of the shitbirds that did this, but anyone with a big enough voice on twitter will always have haters spamming report. The big problem here is twitter.  This entire thread should be way more mad at twitter than it is.  Someone who spams reports along with his dipshit pals can't ban an account- only twitter can.

I know it's generally better than previously, but there's still a ton of people banned on twitter and it seems like there's either multiple factions at twitter, or they just have tiers of misbehavior before you get added to perma-blacklisted individuals.

For what it's worth, this particular case is really unlikely to be permanent.

RPGPundit

They're currently telling me that it's permanent, though giving me the option to appeal if I think they got it wrong.

Almost_Useless

So, people who openly promote punching N*zis have gotten you banned for allegedly threatening violence against N*zis.  I guess that's par for the course these days.

Yes, with the added detail that threatening violence was not my intent.

Brigman

That smells of high bullshittery.  No reasonable viewer would think you meant actual violence. "The banhammer" is a common internet term. >:(

Pity he said "get the hammer" not "banhammer."  I suspect Jeffro & co did not actually feel in fear of physical violence from Pundit, but I can barely fault them for shooting at an open goal.

I think it barely matters whether twitter decided to honor the request of some BrOSR pundit-hater or some random antifa / gamerghazi stooge.  Twitter pulled this trigger, which of the million haters get the credit for having their alleged reason selected seems so unimportant to me I dunno.

This sadly doesn't mean anything, though I guess with my extensive qualifications as "anonymous guy who is on the internet", I would recommend you jump through their hoops and engage in good faith (assuming said hoops are not too burdensome).  Sometimes this process works, sometimes it does not.  My guess is, if you're on a blacklist it's a perma and they were waiting, and if you aren't they will clear it up.  Not only is it obviously not a violent threat or inciting anyone to violence, it requires an incredibly tortuous set of beliefs to land there.  First you have to pretend that you aren't talking about banning people which you obviously are, then you have to pretend that "get the hammer" implies that you will personally run around with an actual hammer and beat up people you disagree with politically, and third you have to pretend that you meant this in an unironic and literal fashion.

It's also possible that these twitter speech-censors, as obvious villains, identify as vicious barrels thrown by a chaotic ape, and are worried because they know that a hammer makes you a threat to them.

RPGPundit

Well guys, if you want to help me out, please share the link to my Livestream to twitter (see my livestream thread for the link). And then if you're on twitter, sometime tonight, write a post to @twittersupport explaining that I was unfairly banned and did not mean to threaten violence.

Grognard GM

Could someone please link to Tweets/Blogs/Videos where these views were actually expressed, and any of the push back? I am morbidly curious.
I'm a middle aged guy with a lot of free time, looking for similar, to form a group for regular gaming. You should be chill, non-woke, and have time on your hands.

OMG, where will we be able to.find your voice now? Mastadon?  :o
;D  j/k I know you're here.
:o Or are you really here? Is any of this real?
:-[ Hold me, I'm scared!

Not really sure yet. At the moment, I plan to post a bit more on theRPGsite, on the Inglorious OSR group on Mewe, on the Conservative OSR group on Facebook, and probably to be more active on Youtube.

Ironically, I was mulling about how to work out doing subscriptions or videos on Twitter before this, trying to figure out what I could offer there. Now that's out obviously, but who knows, I might see if I can set up Youtube Subs, or if I go really crazy maybe actually start using that Patreon I have always had for people who just wanted to throw money at me.

Patreon has been co-opted for years now, you'd be better off switching to subscribestar.

As far as I know it's pretty tough for new people to get set up on SubscribeStar (based on accounts of a few people who have tried). I've heard they take a smaller cut than Patreon.

Odysee has similar features to Patreon ("Memberships") and takes a smaller cut than Patreon as well.
