This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Is 40k a Horror Setting?

HA! Good one!

Is there a trick to saying that with a straight face?

I might have to sig that.
Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet.

Quote from: KoltarI'd like to thank this thread for finally answering for me just why the 40K universe does not appeal to me.

I'm not into horror.

...and musclebound psychos with big guns bore the hell out of me.
(I use them as comedy relief sometimes in my G:TRAVELLER campaogn)

I hate horror. But Abnett's 40k is sci fi pulp, so I'm alright.

I love that DOOM comic.
It's fucking brilliant.

The radioactive waste bit is one of my favorite asides ever.

edit: I'd play that.
God in the Machine.

Here's my website. It's defunct, but there's gaming stuff on it. Much of it's missing. Sorry.

I've got a blog. Do you read other people's blogs? I dunno. You can say hi if you want, though, I don't mind company. It's not all gaming, though; you run the risk of running into my RL shit.

Koltar, find this book:  Durham Red: The Scarlet Cantos.

It's very 40K, and has the pretty vampire lady that I'm sure you'll like. :D

When the Iconoclasts (*cough*Space Marines*cough*) arrive on the wooden planet of Wodan because they've heard there's a vampire... and then BURN THE WHOLE PLANET to contain the "infection" and slice, bolt, and flame everyone they meet... that's 40K.  The protagonists (or players if it was a game) need to get the hell out of there, fast.

...Looked at the cover illo....

Damn, she looks like an old flirtation of mine - this bisexual brunette I knew that went to the movies with me 2 or 3 times before she broke up with her girlfriend. (I got along with her girlfriend pretty good too)

Quote from: One Horse TownIn the 40k RPG, can you get big guns, metal armour and go quish/shoot things for jollies? Why yes, i think that you can. Can you also do an Event Horizon type horror game? Why yes, you can. Can you run an political game with it? Hmm, the answer is ringing a bell, yes!

Yeah, now if you could only be a Rogue Trader or an alien or a Space Marine with it... then it might even have been a complete RPG.

There's really no need to rub it in mate. How do you think i'm feeling right now?

Quote"Now see here, guy," said the voice on the loud hailer, "You're not dealing with any dumb two-bit trigger-pumping morons with low hairlines, little piggy eyes and no conversation, we're a couple of intelligent caring guys that you'd probably quite like if you met us socially! I don't go around gratuitously shooting people and then bragging about it afterwards in seedy space-rangers bars, like some cops I could mention! I go around shooting people gratuitously and then I agonize about it afterwards for hours to my girlfriend!"
"And I write novels!" chimed in the other cop. "though I haven't had any of them published yet, so I better warn you, I'm in a meeeeean mood!"
