This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Basically every fantasy campaign setting. Ever. Presented in map format

Quote from: Baulderstone;857110I'm guessing you haven't read actually much new fantasy in the last 20 years.

Or I'm looking in the wrong bookstores or asking the wrong people.  Of course I don't like "Urban Fantasy" which keeps me away from a lot of it, nor do I like "Black Company" and its relatives which is another huge chunk.

But I still maintain there's nobody, or almost nobody, writing good ol' "swords and sorcery" any more.  Fafhrd's settled back down in his homelands and spawned a brood of kids and the Mouser is a high level administrator for the new Overlord of Lankhmar.  (Actually, I don't know what Lieber actually did with them, that's a metaphor.)
You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

The rules can\'t cure stupid, and the rules can\'t cure asshole.

The Thraxis series by Martin Scott.  The Eddie LaCrosse series by Alex Bledsoe.  Just two series off the top of my head.  I would add Glen Cook's Garrett series, but I'm sure you wouldn't consider it to be swords and sorcery.

Quote from: Simlasa;856508My homebrew DCC setting actually is pretty much inspired by a similar map...

Man is my DCC homebrew not.  I have to get it published as a setting now, if there's people running something this generic (under-)using the most gonzo set of rules ever.

No, not the one the OP posted...

Quote from: Axiomatic;858153Personally, I kind of like THIS every-fantasy-campaign-ever map.
THAT is the one my DCC campaign was inspired by!
Plus other weird crap and the original Minaria map: http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j59/venusboys3/minaria_zpskqhejxz9.jpg

'Inspired by' can be a long ways from 'copied word for word'... plus, like I mentioned, in mine areas move in and out and around as new ones come in. It's more like a fantasy version of Rifts/Torg... with a bit of Ravenloft.

Quote from: Simlasa;858158the original Minaria map:
That Minaria map has more style just in the damn city icons then some other entire maps.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

'Clockwork Tsars'? 'Evil Shangri-La'? That is something I will have to use for my own at some point :D

That sounds more like it!
