This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm using Acrobat, and no negative pictures here.
Looks like MacBook has problems reading the file. Since you guys have different files and the same issue reading it via MB, I guess it comes from the original encoding of the file.

Quote from: Akrasia;295265My copy looks like a 'negative' with respect to all of the illustrations (i.e., what should be white is black, and vice versa).  It also prints up like this.  Anyone else have this problem?  Anyone know how to fix it?

(I'm using 'Preview' on a MacBook Pro.)
Don't use preview. Use Acrobat Reader.

Quote from: Philotomy Jurament;295359I'm on a MacBook Pro, too.  If I use Preview, I see the "negative" illustrations.  If I use Adobe Reader, it looks correct.  I don't know if it's a problem with Preview or with the document, but using Reader works-around it.

Yup, no problem with Adobe Reader.  Thanks for the tip, Philotomy.

Good pdf, much better look while still not straying far from Chaosium classic looks. Great that it's free, too bad it requires a PITA registration just for the free download, which makes it harder to get potential players to download and checkout.

Preview seems to be perpetually behind a few notches in PDF and often doesn't display certain PDF features right from what I've seen. It's great if it works as it's built in and svelt, but yeah, keep a as up to date copy of Acrobat Reader as you dare around just in case. Dunno if there are other free PDF displayers for Mac OS X but might be worth a looksee.

Never hurts to bring the issue up with the maker of the pdf but no promise of any changes taking place. :(

Ooh! Thanks for catching this. I've been picking up free games, quickplays, and toolkits like crazy since the .pdf boom of April. (Thanks WoTC)

Hey guys, an update.

The BRP Quickstart rules have been updated to 48-pages with a sample adventure.

Updated BRP Quickstart Rules

Also, Chaosium has made the BRP fanzine Uncounted Worlds #1 available for free as well.

Benoist

Well, that is cool. Thanks Drohem for the update!
I know some time, I'm going to itch for some BRPS gaming again.

'download requires login'. I don't care how easy that is, it is lame, intrusive and destroys the essential anonymity of the internet.
The main problem with government is the difficulty of pressing charges against its directors.

Given a choice of two out of three M&Ms, the human brain subconsciously tries to justify the two M&Ms chosen as being superior to the M&M not chosen.

Your loss.  :P

I feel your pain but gave up caring a long time ago.  I just don't have the capacity to let things like this bother me anymore.  *shrug*

Personally I don't care so much about the anominity of the Internet as the fact that I literally have over 80 fucking different user names and passwords out there already.  I literally have to have a giant fucking spreadsheet to keep track of them all; even though many are similar, different sites have different requirements so the same thing won't always work.

And don't even get me started on the jackass paranoia of sites that force you to keep changing the damn thing.  Not to mention that many of them keep adding new shit to verify you (some have up to eight fucking challenge questions now plus give you a picture you have to identify plus some even try some "verifying the IP address bullshit).  Soon computers will require a fucking plug-in biometric reader (perhaps an anal probe) or some shit.

And why?  It's all because some security nerd jackasses like to overreact to everything.  They are as bad as the CDC about whipping people up into a frenzy over nothing just to justify their pathetic existence each year (seriously, which is a bigger scam to the public - freaking people out about Bird Flu or Cornflicker?  You decide).

I seriously wish now that Microsoft's plan of years past to rule the Internet and force everyone to use MS Passport for handling all logins would have worked.  Seriously.  It's enough to make you want to stop using the Internet some times.

BRP uses d6's for stats but otherwise it's mostly a d% system.  Honestly I'm kinda surprised they haven't just gone to % based stats too to streamline things further.

ah ok well no biggy im sure the fact it only really uses d6's and d%'s will be just a cool :)

TheShadow

The new quickstart looks fantastic with a half-dozen mini-adventures in different genres. This would have blown my mind if someone had handed it to me as a 15-year old newbie. Hope it brings the word of BRP to a lot more folks!
