Title: Basic Fantasy RPG
Post by: TristramEvans on January 14, 2015, 12:42:36 PM
Anyoen familair with this?  guess its one of the older retroclones, but still going pretty strong. A friend of mine just contacted me and asked if I wanted to do some work for it. Just thought I'd do some preliminary research into it first.

I am familiar with it and have contributed several pieces to the cause:)  They are a great bunch of folks to be involved with.  I've done artwork for pay and was never fulfilled with it.  Drawing for Basic Fantasy has been extremely satisfying and rewarding.  I am honored to be a small part of their fantastic community:)

Here's my art thread over there. (http://www.basicfantasy.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1372)

Cool. So , how does it work, you post up your pics and if they decide to grab any for use in one of the books you get paid?

There's no pay involved:)  It's donating your work to the cause.  BF is an open source game much like linux.  All of the pdf material is free.  Printed items are sold at cost, so there is very little, if any, profit to be made.  If you contact Chris Gonnerman on the BF site, he'll be able to give you a much more detailed explanation than I can:)

All the work I've done for BF is free to use in any BF thing someone creates.

In the general forums, there's a thread called "Workshop".  That's usually where new items for BF are getting posted.  You can either start a thread offering to draw up some pics there, or look through an existing thread and ask.

I like Basic Fantasy. It's one of the first retroclones as is essentially B/X D&D with ascending AC, race and class split, and a robust universal ability roll mechanic.

BFRPG is my favorite version of DnD. See my sig for a lot more stuff and definitely check my blog for monsters.

It's pretty much the first game using the SRD meant to directly emulate the older games (I don't count Castles & Crusades because it sucks), though not any specific version, just the spirit.

In a lot of ways, it's sort of like if Basic D&D hadn't gone to race as class in B/X but followed the original Holmes model.

Basic Fantasy is what I ran until 5e came along. Just to agree with the  "sturdy B/X D&D clone with some differences" theme.

Thanks man. Just talking in IM to Gonnerman on FB, having trouble registering at the site. But will probably be contributing some art very soon.
