Has anyone done a review of the Basic Fantasy RPG?
Nope, and I can't find a review anywhere.
The only thing I could find was This. (http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=323568)
I seem to remember seeing one recently, but for the life of me I can't remember where.
I think the absence of reviews is largely down to it being a free system. If you want to find out what it's like simply hit download and give it a read.
If you can't be bothered to do *that* then my capsule review would be : The Tom Moldvay Basic Set meets d20 in what appears to be an entertaining exercise in capturing the old school charm of yesteryear.

I agree (if the Moldvay Basic Set is the one with the Erol Otus cover). The two main changes from the Erol Otus cover D&D book is:
1. AC ascends.
2. No races as classes.
If you have the old school D&D books, not much is really changed in BFRPG. The game still has:
1. Saving throws
2. Fire and forget (Vancian) magic
3. Need to wear armor to survive.
4. Thieves still have poor chance at thieving at first level (everything now is a % chance).
You can run any Basic D&D module by simplying taking the monster's AC and converting it to New AC = 20 - AC. That's it and then run the module.
Do you need to buy this book? Probably not. There are a ton of Basic/Expert D&D books on the 'net that sell for cheap.
I bought the perfect bound from Lulu for nostalgic sake. It has decent layout , some good art and I thought it would be nice to have a complete B/X set in one book (excluding the Rules Cyclopedia).
Thanks!
Eric
It's also a lot easier to import some of the wackier 3.5 monsters into your Moldvay-esque game if it takes your fancy. You could even add Feats if you felt like it, although that would be defeating the point of the exercise somewhat.
EDIT: And yes, Enelson, the Moldvay edition was the one with Otus' Green Dragon cover.:)

Labyrinth Lord by Goblinoid Games is coming soon. It's the same basic thing.

Well, since it's free, just download it and take a look for yourself. Why trust someone else?
