This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So last nights D&D game was interesting

I'm curious how playing in a grocery store works and haven't been able to find the other post you mentioned. Any chance you could provide the thread title or a link or recap or something?

The grocery store we play in is a Wegmans which is a large grocery store with food (obviously), beer and wine as well as it used to have a pub restaurant and a large area that used to have buffets with various foods that you could fill a container with, buy and then sit in the large seating area to the side.

The buffets went away because of Covid, but the seating areas are still there.   They have food you can buy in the store (pizza, sandwiches, drinks, etc.) so we always buy something so we are not freeloading and sit in the seating area.   The seating area is usually quiet so we do not have any problems with people.

I've grown to like gaming at my local gaming pub/store. No one has to do host duties and cleanup. It does have the noise issue and private room is a coin toss on whether it's available or not.
The one I go to doesn't charge anything though. We buy snacks and booze to give them some business when we use the space.

Sounds like you've found a pretty good venue there.

It is a very good venue indeed.  Luckily there is rarely anyone in the area when we are gaming so it is very quiet and we are very close to food, drinks, and bathroom facilities.

Not to mention the price is right.  When playing in a private room at a game store it was $125 a month split then out food and we couldn't always get the room (sounds like the issue you had) and the open gaming area was way too noisy.

This way we are just paying for gas (which we do wherever we play) and then the cost of the food.  Much cheaper.
