Fixed
And less than 10 hours and we've already hit Copper Bestseller.
I watched this video because it has a person with a face in it. I have difficulty staying focused on the disembodied voice videos.
The notion that people regularly market games they haven't themselves played is a real head-scratcher to me. I agree this is a critical selling point!

Yeah, the number of RPGs being published where that isn't a central concern is crazy.
Just purchased this RPG, have to say it's giving me a lot of ideas for my OSR games.
Oooo! Sweet and thank you!
It hit Silver Bestseller in under 24 hours from launch. And it's been the top selling title for the last day and a half.
Is there a review somewhere?
Just bought mine today - Hardcover standard color (being shipped) and the PDF (which I'm browsing now). It's GORGEOUS! I really look forward to getting my group to try it out on the table sometime!
When I read the description, I was hooked. Seriously, I went to school years ago to get a degree in Medieval Europe, with an emphasis on...Eastern Europe. Especially Poland. From what I can tell, you REALLY did your homework. Hardbound with PDF going on wish list.
Thank you!
Baptism of Fire has been #1 on DTRPG's bestseller list for three full days now. This is incredible.
In two hours I'll be doing an AMA livestream on youtube if you have questions about the book.
If you bought Baptism of Fire from DTRPG, please do me a favor and go back to the page and give it a rating (I mean, hopefully 5/5 if you think it deserves it).
Because some customers were asking for it: here is where you can get the beautiful hexmap of 11th century Poland from Baptism of Fire:

From looking at the table of contents on the preview, does the game assume base knowledge of the OSR and its core mechanics or does it explain the basic general mechanics of the underlying game? Maybe I'm getting the wrong impression but it seems like it assumes you know the core rules/themes of OSR gamign from the organization of the table of contents.
Posted a review on DriveThru! Hope it helps!
It's a beautiful game, really. And from what I can see it captures the setting... dare I say it... authentically :D

Well, Diversity & Dragons did a livestream about it.
There are some reviews on the sales page on DTRPG itself.

It assumes that the players already know how to play D&D, yes. The odds of Baptism of Fire every being anyone's "baby's first rpg" (much less without someone to guide them) is pretty low.

Huh. There's a wait to review it on drivethrurpg. Welp, it can wait - there's a lot to read and digest. I'll get to it in a week or so of reading through it.
It's still a solid #2 after a full week. Congratulations!
Of course, I'm trying to avoid making a scatalogical joke... and failing.

Fair enough though I was more referring to common OSRisms that may not be instantly familiar to 3e and up players in case I wasn't originally clear. Things like ascending vs descending success for rolls, when to roll a d20 vs d6 vs 2d6, etc. I'd assume that's probably true to a lesser extent as well with BoF.

A question: has anyone here seen any actual Ads on drivethru for Baptism of Fire?
Mad Scribe spent money to have some, but even though I'm currently frequently going to DTRPG to check the status of the book, I haven't seen a single ad. I want to know if anyone else has.

Haven't see a one. I reloaded the page (and ads) 20 times, and while some cool ads popped accross the bottom banner, none were for BoF.
Pundit, unless you've fixed it there is an issue of remaining L&D text in the magical items:
"51-52 Hermit's Robes: Albion has a long
tradition of many saintly monks and holy
men and women who retired to live the lives
of hermits. These holy men's vestments
(usually plain wool or sack-cloth)..."
Anons on 4ch also pointed out capitalization is inconsistent in the demonic powers section.
Purtoks seem to missing their alignment.
I have not. I wonder if it's because I already bought the title? I don't usually see ads for things I've already bought, but then I don't know how personalized these are.
EDIT: Refreshed the page and I did see it as an add in the "Hottest Small Publishers" banner strip, with a little green "own" flag across the top left corner (because I already bought it).

I've been paying attention, and have taken the opportunity to refresh the main page a few dozen times each of the last couple days and have not seen an ad for BoF.
I checked Drive Thru RPG, and it's still featured on the front page.
I know that there is a lot of trash that won't sell more than 10 copies on that site but it's still an accomplishment either way.

That's not an ad, just a ranking list. It's on there because people are buying it, not because money was spent for an ad. Which makes you wonder what the money spent on the ad actually bought.

First, look at the introduction to Baptism of Fire. I know a lot of introductions are just meant to be ignored, but in BoF (and Lion & Dragon) I use it to try to explain to GMs what the medieval paradigm should be; that is, the rules of the setting.
Second, a lot of historical research. In Baptism of Fire, everything I can is historically based: even the table of names, pagan lore, economy, the types of food that were prevalent, details about the cities/towns, etc.

Yes, I don't typically read that site; I've been told it was popular for Warhammer stuff in the past, but that now it's gone very woke.
Yeah, as a former avid 40k player, they joined the woke crowd years ago but they only fly their flags on occasion. The first indication for me was an article a few years back asking/advocating for female space marines in 40k.
Was Perun not mentioned in BoF because he's East Slavic? If so I figured that would be true of Chors as well. They are mentioned together in the same sources after all.

Yeah, Perun was not really worshipped in Poland, though he might have been in the borderlands with the lands of the Rus.
Congrats, Pundit. Your stuff is worthy of recognition and real consideration for the gaming table. Lord knows, I've been taking large pieces of L&D and putting them in my own game for a while now.)
I haven't gotten a copy of BoF yet because I'm at sea and I want to wait until I can have a physical copy sent to me without worry.
One of the things I really like about how you do your material is that you give me enough understanding of it so that I can take the parts I want and see how they can fit in my own game well. I run a high fantasy setting of my own creation but I'm able to take a lot from L&D to really flesh it out. My players have complemented me on many aspects of my game that I straight up lifted from L&D books. Thank you.

As an artist and former professional illustrator, I know I'm supposed to roil and froth at any use of AI art but... damn this is a beautiful book! Spent some time just looking at all the art today.
I love Lion & Dragon, but this "looks" more like a "modern" high-quality RPG.
I did pick up the PDF and have been reading a printout of the black & white version while I wait for my hardcopy from Amazon.
So far, I am in love with this game. The setting is captured excellently throughout without adding complexity. Digesting the setting enough for me to comfortable enough to run it will take some time, but I look forward to the work.
Five star rating left on DTRPG with a full review coming after I've played it a few times.

Seriously, you've done a great job capturing the setting throughout. For example, archer is its own class. Why is this important? Well, here's a quote from my family history:
"..signed up as a mercenary in either Italy or Spain fighting with swords and bows and arrows."
Baptism of Fire is not stereotyping all Polish warriors as anachronistic hussars. Archers are an authentic detail and the book is chock-full of similar examples.
This is going to be a great game to play.
Thank you again!
Hi. Just found my way to this forum. I've come to the OSR from Warhammer. I love the Old World setting and the ordinary, even low life professions you get to play, but the system is so complex it makes me fatigued.
Baptism of Fire: Found it whilst looking at Lion & Dragon. I love the way rpgpundit has been helping us to enrich our medieval RPG's with more historical content (E.g Dark Albion). I think it really grounds the game and makes it a lot more atmospheric and immersive. It means the group acclimatise to the mundane world and then Argh!!! the monster/ beast/ fey entity appears and its way more exciting and disturbing.
I'm trying to decide between the standard colour and premium editions. Is there anywhere i can see or read about the difference - because it's a large price increment. i've searched and not found anything to help me choose. Love to see some pics or videos.

I don't have pics or videos handy, but I could tell you that the premium color has a higher quality of paper, and it has "more intense" colors. That latter part will probably depend a lot on just how much attention you give to art as a rule. I've got author copies of both, and to me the difference in 'color intensity' is actually pretty small, FROM MY PERSPECTIVE. But apparently people view color differently, and some people have claimed it's worth it.
Thanks.
I love the AI Art disclaimer on the product description. It's on point.

The art selection was entirely Mad Scribe's decision, but I think it turned out amazing. Certainly looks better than the crap art we're seeing from the OneDnD Player's Handbook.
