This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

We're starting up another Shadowrun game soon, and I'm playing my first hacker/decker in over 15 years of PCs and GMing. Any of you cybertech types got some tips for me?

First, which edition are you going to use? Will it be a long-term or a short-term campaign?

Second, are you using sourcebooks like Man & Machine? If so, check little gems like the Math SPU.

SR4, using fourth edition books only. I'm actually an adept focused on hacking, but left that out since I've got no "phys ad" style powers.

It'll supposedly be a long term campaign, and the runs will each be netting at least 100K per person. I'm a little leery of that, especially since we're starting runners and don't have the experience for those high end runs, but I'll roll with it.

I think I'm kinda hosing myself by going adept because huge amounts of cash means huge amounts of 'ware, but it fits the concept best. Who knows though, I may switch up and go from adept with a little bit of 'ware to straight cyber and bio at some point during char gen.

I'm jealous.  I can't find anyone around here interested in SR, unfortunately.
