This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Autofire with explosive projectiles

Ok, most games have rules for explosive rounds and such, and most have rules for autofire.

What I don't see much of is rules for autofire with explosive projectiles. Say you have a 25mm cannon that can fire ~7 explosive rounds with frag jackets per burst.

How would you handle that? I was hoping to find a way to make it an area effect attack, as a weapon like this might be used to cover an area in small explosions and shrapnel to get a group in it.

"Sarge, we've got a squad of DCs holed up by that collapsed building firing from the cover of the debris!"

"Hose the area with the AGL (Automatic grenade launcher) and saturate it with shrapnel!"

As is I can't find rules to cover that too well, I was wondering if people had any ideas on it.

Combining autofire with explosive rounds seems to produce an awful lot of die rolling if you have to handle each projectile and explosion sperately. I was hoping to find a way to handle it as an area attack.

That's actually exactly what 40k's "bolters" are.  they're basically an assault rifle that fires large bore explosive rounds that bear more resemblance to grenade rounds than bullets.

GURPS 4e. I could have socketpuppeted an account there and asked, but the place just disgusts me with all the toadying, the arrogance, ad infinitum, ad nauseaum....

Sorry, can't help you then. The only GURPs game I ever played was like a train wreck on the abortion express (GM's fault not the game, but I'm scarred for life).

I can sympathize with you, Jimmy. My first D&D game was a real assfuck, but I picked up a cheap copy of star frontiers later and got into SFRPGing, which saved me from being a non-gamer. (SHUDDER!)

Seriously tho, using an autofire explosive projectile weapon oughtta have some special rules for area fire, because something like that seems more useful for hosing an area than firing at one guy.

I'd like it if one could target a given area, let rip and hit everyone with shreapnel depending on your roll, and maybe on a critical have some choice about hitting an individual target with a round directly.
