This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Art in rpgs: Chainmail bikinis, bikini witches, "cheesecake" etc

I find this image much more appealing than the earlier "cheesecake" ones on this thread.

I think the whole thing boils down to individual preferences, and think "debates" about it are sound and fury signifying nothing.
The problem is not that power corrupts, but that the corruptible are irresistibly drawn to the pursuit of power. Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito.

Quote from: gattsuru;620605Yeah, it is quite a well-written book, if you're into the Exalted setting.  It's just that I'd be less comfortable carrying it uncovered on a bus than I would several gay furry porn comics.
"Silken Armor" (artifact clothing which protects like steel armor) has been part of the setting from early on, but I don't think S&S ever mentions it, and in any case that outfit would still leave too much skin bare to do much good. I vaguely remember old arguments over whether the magical silk would provide the optimal protection for martial artists.
Previously known by the name of "GrimGent".

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't know we were talking about history. I thought the topic was art in fantasy games.

As in, not real.

Do you complain that Conan isn't wearing enough armor too?

Also, your first picture is boring as fuck and would turn me off your product. The second is nice.

Am I not seeing this right or is she wearing a full plate half shirt?

Thats a fighter begging to have her belly sliced open. A bikini top (while impractical and silly) would at least enable quickness. This outfit exposes her belly AND slows her down.

It's full plate, she just has the flag...cloth...thing wrapped around it. And then some lace underskirt because it looks cute or whatever.

I don't know if you'd call them "knights", but if we're talking "historical female warriors with a centuries-old martial tradition", then they look a bit more like this.

She's wearing her colours. Fine, whatever... she'd probably take off the train in actual combat, because I doubt she's an idiot. And I could imagine her learning to fight in the high-heel boots, as part of her training in wearing that armour.

But, that's full plate. So she's got at least an arming doublet on underneath, for it to attach to (I can't make out from her figure if she's wearing a layer of chain as well), and to take as much weight off the shoulders as possible. Her harness will be in jointed layers for mobility (Presumably the joint to allow her to bend at the waist is under her colours). And that pipe going into her breastplate must be connected to something, and not just... sitting there. Let's say her armour layers come to being about an inch thick, to allow for mobility.

There's just not very much space to fit someone inside that armour, allowing for that. Her waist alone would be tiny; corsetry-type levels. But her arms would be even worse - look at how spindly her right arm is, even with the armour; she doesn't look like she would be able to have the muscles to be a melee combatant. Beneath it, this woman would look like a lollipop.

Sure, it's a nice enough picture, and a cool model. But spandex-fitting plate mail looks stupid. All it would take to fix, though, would be bulking up her chest and her arms, to account for the person inside.
one two FUCK YOU

There seems to be a lot of middle ground that goes missing in these types of conversations.  There are more choices than "pure cheesecake" and "uber realistic."  You can have a woman in cool yet unrealistic armor while at the same time not looking like she's ready to take in a sausage.
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

Thank goodness I set down my coffee before I read that, else my monitor and my clothes would be drenched right now.

Sublimely put, Sacro, and yes, you can have fantastic-looking armor without unduly sexualizing the wearer.

Well, I guess that's the more eloquent way of putting it, sure...

I actually agree. The waist is too tiny and it looks a bit weird.

As for the pipe, in Iron Kingdoms magical items are powered by a sort of... magical electricity so the cable probably is just plugged into a metal plate with runes on it rather than some actual mechanism. But it might look strange to people.
