This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Is there a reason I should prevent a character of this class from utilizing the styles given in S&C? I figure one of my players would want to play this Xia type character but using the Yin-Yang or Shaolin styles.

There's not a reason in particular, except that those schools were taught in monastic traditions or orders; a renegade martial artist with one of those schools would probably be someone who was kicked out of that particular order.

Makes sense. Getting kicked out or being a lay disciple that returns to secular life should be believable then.
Oh, while I was satisfied with the product I was a little sad there was no Zui Quan.

The Song Dynasty is interesting in general; very often overlooked because it never extended as far some other dynasties, it was possibly China at its most progressive, technologically speaking. There was a lot of martial arts, spying, secret societies etc etc, stuff you might use in a Japanese setting in a later period (say the 1600s). Personally, I also like the art of the time.

Maybe in a future product. There's room to add more styles after all!

Yes. It was the most socially advanced dynasty in Chinese Imperial history, and it was the most technologically advanced society in the world (until the industrial revolution).
