This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Are there any Zweihander RPG fans, here?

Quote from: JanDevries on April 26, 2025, 02:13:34 PMIt's no more or less "stolen" than any other retroclone. There are valid criticisms of Zweihander and its creator to be made. This isn't one of them.

You are correct, I find it highly ironic that Fox was so instrumental in getting the Trove shut down though, considering his game is just a reskin of existing IP.

As a game, I don't really have anything bad to say about it and I'd rather play it than WFRP4.

Another dumb criticism of Fox. There's nothing wrong with not wanting your shit pirated, retro-clone or not. He wasn't the only creator involved in the Trove takedown. he's just the only one who admitted it.

Even if anyone was entitled to steal, which they're not, the Trove wasn't even the best place to get any of that stuff. Everything the Trove had could and can be found elsewhere, usually with better download speeds. Among the RPG pirating community, the Trove was seen as a joke due to how shitty, slow, and infrequently updated it was. When the Trove went down (and it's since come  back), absolutely nothing was lost that couldn't be found in several other places.

Whether something is a clone or not, piracy is still piracy. If you think Zweihander deserves to be pirated for being a clone, then the same is true for pretty much any and all OSR products. That's just dumb.

Like I said, there are valid criticisms of the man and his game. "He made it less convenient to steal" isn't one.

Username checks out, though.

Quote from: Man at Arms on April 25, 2025, 12:31:34 AMI ordered the 384 page hardcover PHB, as possible RPG inspirational material.  The price is very reasonable right now, on Amaz, with free 2 day shipping, too.  So I gave in, and dropped the coin.

Anyway, this is a genuine inquiry; not an advertisement.  I have heard of the WFRPG, but i have never seen it in person.  I think I heard that Zweihander, is "very" similar.

What have I jumped off into?

Which version?   I really hope you're already aware that they're coming out with a new edition later this year and kickstarted it last year...

This PHB has a 2019 Copyright.  I have it in hand now.  I'm considering it, a personal introduction to d100 RPGs.  I like the Critical Success / Critical Failure mechanic.  I like the Exploding Dice mechanic.

I completely forgot to check "The List" thread, before spending my money.  When that thread was first posted, I checked it often; but then I burned out on reading it, after the first 30 to 40 visits.
