Quote from: Marleycat;562996Tommy I was reading your lame blog today because I was bored.  So tell me more about horrible cheesy Mad Max games! What's good, bad, ugly?  Marley is intrigued so please?

Holy fuck! Shirley Manson's forehead is huge! It's like a fivehead.

Incidentally, does Food Network personality Giada De Laurentis remind anyone else of a xenomorph?

What were we talking about again?
I used to be amused, now I\'m back to being disgusted.

Quote from: Marleycat;563201Sounds workable, and this "Reclaimation"? Sounds like if you want to do something similar to Deadlands?

If you want to do something similar to Deadlands, but PostApoc, you can still get Hell on Earth (the actual Post Apocalyptic Deadlands future) in Classic, Savage Worlds and d20 versions...=) Reclamation is kind of its own beast, though it would probably adapt to nWoD easier than d20 due to its built in Morality Track. The setting is hopeful, with "Reclamation" referring to the viral message spreading through cells encouraging people to try and rebuild the world, but the powers the PCs use have a nasty twist: They are powered by Radiation and the more you use Radiation the more you can succumb to the Sickness that's taking over the world.

Quote from: Marleycat;563202Wait, you said this stuff is D20? This means I can convert for Fantasy Craft no heavy lifting? Awesome.:D

Yeah, for easy lifting to Fantasy Craft, I would pick Darwin's World, since most of the work's going to be done for you already.

Much as I love Deadlands, I haven't exactly heard great things about the d20 versions of the books, Hell on Earth included.

Reclaimation interests me. I can do Deadlands Fantasy Craft no help. I love classic Deadlands. It was the game that got me into White Wolf and serious gaming.  Blame Julie and Norwestcon.  She runs nothing but horror games, hence my love for whacked settings. 5 card stud to use magic?  Fucking awesome.

Deadlands is probably my favorite setting ever. I've been on both sides of the screen in Classic, and ran a fair bit of the Savage Worlds version...good stuff...=)

One of our players, who played a Huckster in Classic, was actually disappointed that Reloaded made the Poker playing for magic optional.

You might also want to check out Barbarians of the Aftermath, a supplement for Barbarians of Lemuria. It has some tables that help you plan out your apocalypse, so it can be natural disaster, nuclear war, alien invasion, the stars being right, etc. That material can be used for any system, not just with BoL

Thanks for the tip. I'm iffy on BoL but open. You said it's fairly system neutral?

@Tommy, no realtime poker? Fuck that.:) Deadlands Hucksters rock my magic itch.  Love them, I want to BE one for real.

It's there...it's just optional instead of mandatory. (You get X amount of Power Points...when they're gone, you can do the cardplay to try to get more)

Heh. Funny enough, its something I didn't care for--anytime you put a game, as a mechanic inside another game, it almost always slow down play significantly.

It was never a SIGNIFICANT slowdown, but it certainly wasn't the fastest resolution...I didn't complain much when it came up in combat, because I was rolling 5d12 Quickness and essentially getting five actions a round, so the Huckster was waiting on me just as much as I was waiting on him.

Not for Deadlands it's more like 5 card stud if you have the balls.  But it actually works more like Texas Hold:em and EVERYONE at the table is invested and begging you on. It's totally great. You actually play it with the GM in one round.  You lay your cards out.  Done.

The stuff for designing the apocalypse itself is pretty netutral. There are about 18 pages of tables to help you create the background for the apocalypse, etc. I think it really gives you a lot of options. I've never used the rules add ons, but those tables are really fun to play around with.

Tommy, will you be reviewing Apocalypse World? I'm curious about that one.

I like my post apocalyptia to be grim. I want it to be about the struggle for survival in a difficult, near future setting - a setting that makes it obvious that we take our western society for granted. I'd like it to be like Mad Max, The Road, A Boy and His Dog, or Le Dernier Combat, and even Lord of the Flies. For these reasons Atomic Highway was a bit of a let down - not evocative of the mood of Mad Max at all, in my view, and the addition of mutants (future-orcs) only adds a comic book feel. That said, I'm sure you could use the rules to create the setting you want (and I do hope to do this sometime), but I prefer a rulebook that inspires me to do so.

The closest I've seen so far to what I like is the Rubble and Ruin monograph for BRP. It probably swings a little too far toward rules heaviness for me, and in some places (the adventures) the mood is lighter than what I'd like, but it's still the closest thing I've seen on the market.
