This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

AoO's in Tri-stat?

Attacks of opportunity, reach, etc. is kinda fun in d20... would it work okay in tristat? what would have to change?

AoOs work best with grids and tactical movement.  You can do them without it, but I've always noticed a substantial difference in frequency of AoOs with a grid.

It would probably be easiest to implement them as free melee attacks against anyone you're in combat with who lowers their guard to perform some other action or tries to flee.

Seems fair... I suppose maybe I should add Combat Reflexes to combat techniques? "Provokes attack of opportunity" to drawbacks? I dunno... also, what do you think would be appropriate space and reach for given levels of awkward size?

I think "Provokes AoOs" would be a fine drawback, or you could just attach it automatically to anything that took multiple rounds to perform.

Space and reach is tough, given that a Tri-Stat often isn't too specific on where everyone is.  If it were me I might not even address it with a rule and instead just tell my players that the rules of common sense apply.  A 50 foot tall mecha with a giant sword is going to 'be in melee range' at a much greater distance than a street urchin with a knife.

Combat Reflexes is a good idea too.
