This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Anyone using UltraModern5 (5e)?

This Kickstarter is just about over, and it looks like an interesting modern interpretation of 5e. This is the second printing. Anyone have any good or bad experiences with the system? What are other good modern extensions to 5e?

I own a bunch of those books. They are well done, a few hiccups from the grammar side, but nothing horrible. Art is gorgeous, well organized and solid indexes. Certainly a savvy group of publishers.

However, for the 5e version they leaned a little too heavy on the 3.5isms. More crunchy than 5e, which IMHO defeats the purpose of going modern with the popular kids' system. If I'm going to play 5e, I want all the advantages of 5e.

Still, the books have tons of cool ideas, the settings are colorful and would be fun to adventure in, and they are well put together.

I've skipped this one for now, and instead looking at Jason Vey's Adventure 5e -->  https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/676918054/amazing-adventures-5e-rpg . The C&C folks did detailed light-system well and I believe Jason's approach has a much better chance of keeping with the simplicity of 5e.

Just tossing my belt into the ring.

I had not heard of Amazing Adventures before, but their book is 288 pages and includes core 5E rules.  Ours is 450 pages and we don't duplicate content from core 5E.  We assume you have the PHB, so that 450 pages of all new content.  And we include a mecha construction system.  And three adventures.  And a new spellcraft system.  Plus we are keeping playtesting open until the very end to tweak the system to ensure as many people enjoy the final product as possible.

Just sayin'.  :)

I went ahead and pledged at the 'art' level. What is the license associated with the art?

Thanks! Well, you should write up a review of it when you have a chance. It would be nice if we had a sort of 5e equivalent to d20 modern (not necessarily how d20 modern was implemented, but a good 'modern' implementation).

That is awesome. Are you keeping a similar structure with ladders, etc. ? And note that I believe you folks do amazing work! I'm just worried that it's more complex than what your average 5e player is used to...

Ooh, excellent thread! Slowly sticking my toe back into D&D after decades of GURPS monogamy, so naturally I was planning on house-writing this exact thing lol. Looks like I missed the KS for Ultramodern, but I was in time to sign up for Amazing Adventures!
