This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Any suggestions for someone jumping off the Paizo sh!tshow lol

For Gothic horror, there's the version of Masque of the Red Death that Sword & Sorcery/White Wolf put out for D&D 3.5.  It's set in a gothic horror version of Earth in the 1890s.

Dont you like 2E? I think its great. My problem is that more and more Paizo seems to be Marketing exclusively to woke leftist 10 year old girls. They gonna turn Golarion into a petting zoo. Imo just keep the content that is good and create content that is better. Nobody will arrest you for homebrew.

Although its not like anything like pathfinder. It also has its own campaign setting I havent looked into...
Open legend is a great rules lite TTRPG

Quote from: easywolf32All are great in their own way.

That pretty much covers up the gothic horror setting for a while, will look into savage worlds for Pathfinder 1E also.

If anyone knows a modern (Post 2000?) Fantasy type with plenty of werewolf one on one haunts let me know also, thanks.

For gothic horror I can only think of Palladium Books Nightbane RPG.

The game is set in the modern day world.  The planet Earth experienced a single day without the sun, the moon, or stars.  Dark Day.  It freaked out a lot of people, some to commit suicide.  When it was over nobody knew what to think, but then it started.  Creatures entered our world from the mirror universe, and I mean that literally. You reflection is another you. An evil you.  And these evil things want to take over.

Something like that?

HELL NO LOL.

Quote from: Orphan81 on December 27, 2024, 06:12:23 PMWhat is this weird obsession with Werewolves, but can't have anything you deem "Satanic".

Go buy Werewolf: The Apocalypse 20th anniversary edition.

It's post 2000, full color, set in a Gothic World and you get to be the Werewolf.

Oh and there's nothing Satanic in it.

Looked into it, but not into werewolf clans..

Quote from: Ruprecht on December 24, 2024, 10:39:52 AMWhy not go back to Pathfinder 1E? Why did you migrate in the first place? That might give a clue to what might be satisfying.

This and the Witch Hunter (For Victorian-Gothic) were the best suggestions, thanks.

I'm really liking what I'm seeing from Forgotten Realms though. That's what I call High Fantasy. This book looks great: The Grand History of the Realms. Anyone know of a Forgotten Realms book adventure set in big dungeons or classic horror setting?

I'm more of a reader than a player to be honest.

Sounds like you're good with Pathfinder 1E, but you just need more adventures/setting stuff in color?

Have you checked out Kobold Press' Midgard campaign setting? It looks like they are mostly creating new stuff for 5E, but both Noble Knight and DTRPG have their Pathfinder stuff (here's a DTRPG bundle: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/174219/midgard-pathfinder-bundle).

Quote from: easywolf32 on December 23, 2024, 09:41:13 PMI'm done with that freakshow, Pathfinder 1E, excellent, great stuff. Started looking into 2e and nearly puked.

Anyone know an RPG that's lore and dungeon/towers/ruins/castles heavy, normal horror, not too much satanic and occult crap, wildreness is cool, taverns gothic look style with some werewolves running around. You guys know what I'm talking about.

No woke crud though please, and must have color art.

PS> Something like Old school essentials with it's awesome rules but in color and more lore would be fantastic.

is it the setting itself that made you vomit? or the rules? If you liked 1e's setting... and you're familiar with the lore, you could always simply run it on a cleaner non-Woke chassis - Savage Worlds Pathfinder.

Otherwise I'd highly recommend just going with an older D&D edition (1e or 2e) and go hog wild.

Based on your descriptions of what you're looking for - it sounds like Symbaroum might be the setting for you. I've never run it, but the setting is literally everything you're asking for.

OR... if you want something a little different, I'm always pimping out Talislanta. It's entirely free (except the new edition - which doesn't matter, as it's 99% mostly the same material.) Go to their website, they've made all previous editions freeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I recommend 4th. But I can say great things about all of them.

If you're glued to d20 - Fantasycraft for system is hard to beat, BUT you have to adapt your d20 setting to it, it's a ruleset.

Castles and Crusades is cool too.

Honestly, what got me into these RPG's was the PC games Pathfinder Kingmaker and Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous. I've played games since like 1981...and these two rocketed up my top 5 list of all time. Like the length and storyline and different mobs are just great in it. So were the characters, especially in Kingmaker. I started with Pillars of Eternity which I thought was fantastic, especially that 17 floor dungeon underneath your castle, but the Pathfinder games just blew it out of the water. So I was looking for some lore books to read for fun, that's basically where I'm at now. I had a game of D&D with some friends of my elder brother back in the day around say 1988, which was a blast, but never had a chance to play another TTRPG again...neither could I now, because I don't know anyone that plays TTRPG's. I tried getting into Foundry VTT, but that looks like rocket science to me. So yeah, I was just looking for high adventure lore books, with decent color art, and with dungeons and some horror stories/adventures in them, but I like wilderness and everything else too.

Symbaroum looks very interesting, but I'm still stuck in that Golarion setting from Pathfinder. But I can't stand all those main characters they use except for Amiri the barbarian, she was great in Pathfinder Kingmaker, but if you take a look at their books they use those crusty woke types (Cleric, Rogue, Paladin especially) in every damn friggin book. It just kills it for me. So I was taking a look at their pathfinder adventure paths, for their 1e they look amazing, almost all of them, but for 2e it's a friggin circus man. They even have an adventure path that's a cirucs lol. They just keep adding all these wokey chracters with a bunch of pink pants and colorful little flowers in their hair and all these idiotic little wokey little cats and stoopid stuff that you would find in a book for a 3 year old, maybe 2 year olds even. Know what I mean? It just kills the whole scene.

Just wanted to find an rpg that is a bit more grim, but not to the point where it's too grim, just like in both Pathfinder games. At the same time, I'm digging that victorian-Gothic scene so was looking for something such as that as well. I looked into almost everything that was mentioned here, especially Castles and Crusaders, but not sure It's what I want to read. Will probably just get the best Pathfinder 1e like these ones and call it a day, but thanks all.

Okay, you love Golarion. Then I *highly* suggest Savage Worlds Pathfinder. It's simply the Savage Worlds ruleset for Pathfinder without all the silly shit you're rightly complaining about. Yes, they use those iconic character art from 1e, but they don't beat you over the head with it *at all*. The beauty of Savage Worlds is *all* of their other books can be used to tweak your version of Pathfinder to your own needs. You want more Gothic Horror? Pick up the Savage Worlds Horror Compendium to add whatever kinds of rules you want. You can build your own races, curses, let players continue playing as Undead (or whatever you think is cool).

Seriously, the Savage Worlds ruleset will let you customize Golarion any way you want. The only difference is it's not d20 which to me is a good thing as Savage Worlds is faster once you get used to it, and far more scalable. You can play much more high-level with far less headache than in d20.

If you have any questions, feel free to hit me up. Otherwise good luck!

I looked into Palladium "Monsters and Animals" sourcebook for Palladium Fantasy about werewolves.  You can play one, but it's not normally a playable race.

However, the way the game is written they fully stat out intelligent races, complete with which classes they can be.

You can totally play one.

FYI, a werebeast race is not the same thing as a lycanthrope.  One creates the other, because anytime a werebeast is killed in their human form they rise as mindless undead each night.  If you're bitten by that undead husk, you become cursed with lycanthropy and metamorph into a wild animal on full moons.

So, technically there are three kinds of werewolves running around.  The race, the undead, and their victims.
I'm glad for you if you like the top selling game of the genre.  Me, I like the road less travelled, and will be the player asking we try a game you've never heard of.

I think you posted this to the wrong thread. The curse/disease of lycanthropes and playing one are currently being discussed elsewhere on this board.

Not quite.

He asked about alternatives to Pathfinder, with good art, a gothic flavor, and specifically if you can play as werewolves.  I already posted in here that Palladium Fantasy might be a good choice.  Now I'm just going into the werewolf question.

Hey there,

I don't want to be or play as a werewolf. Was just looking for different adventures where a werewolf takes center stage as the main monster is all. Don't really care which TTRPG as long as the werewolf doesn't have pink hair or dressed in a pink skirt or something.
