Title: Any abandoned dwarven settlement modules?
Post by: fearsomepirate on February 21, 2018, 11:16:32 AM
Since I am lazy, I'm looking for some way to exchange money for someone else's hard work to provide basically the most cliched thing ever, an underground dwarven mine/city/etc that has been ravaged by monsters.

Yet I can't seem to find anything good. I need something fairly large, like more than just 8 or 9 rooms. Does anyone have suggestions? Don't say Undermountain, I'm not interested in filling in somebody else's blanks.

Any edition of D&D is fine, the most work I want to put in is converting to 5e.

I haven't read or played it, but I think Hammers of the God for LOTFP qualifies, based on the reviews I've read.

Perhaps https://www.adventurelookup.com can help.

Stonsesky Delve (https://composedreamgames.com/marketplace/Stonesky-Delve) fits.
It's an 1e/OSRIC module from Expeditiouse Retreat Press. Was originally a tournament module so comes with some pre-gens.
In has two sections
1. delving through natural caverns (with both a side view and overhead view map) and
2. the dwarven complex itself.

You can get it here (https://composedreamgames.com/marketplace/Stonesky-Delve) among other places (prices are default set to Canadian $, so it's likely the cheapest place for a PDF).

Isn't there something D&D's Gauntlegrym?  I could be wrong...

Almost every dungeon crawl ever written?

"Realistically" they're pretty much all abandoned dwarf holds. And the rest are abandoned goblin holds.

I can't find it now, but there is an old Dragon (as in first ten or twenty issues) about a Dwarf hold taken over by Ogres.  I didn't care for it because the lower level had some philosophical encounters that I wasn't interested in.

Also, any of the various incarnations of Moria.  I know MERP had some in the Blue and Gray Mountains.

DL4 - Dragons of Desolation features the semi-inhabited Dragonlance version Moria. Lots of useful map templates.

Would Columbia Games' Lost City of Kiraz for Harn work?  Really, really abandoned and fairly big.

Benoist who used to post here a bunch had the Marmoreal Tomb of Garn Pat'uul (http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/123781/Gygax-magazine-issue-3), was released in part in Gygax magazine.  He was a good dude, miss him posting here.

Stonesky Delve looks interesting. Might pick up Yawning Portal for Forge of Fury, too.

Peaks and Valleys: Among the Dwarves (http://drivethrurpg.com/product/180303/Peaks-And-Valleys-Among-the-Dwarves?term=peaks+valleys&test_epoch=0) is a really great dwarf themed sandbox. One of the standouts of OSR modules, IMHO.

While most of the focus is on overland exploration of a large valley area, there's a good chunk about dwarf holds as well.

I don't seem to have this keyed yet. It would be Monday before I can get to it, and it would take me a week to key and stock this dungeon. You are welcome to use it in the meantime though...
