This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What I like about the RC D&D set is that you can perfectly play the old basic/expert version of the rules with it, or go adding on whichever parts of the optional rules you want to; you don't HAVE to use any of them, and the game still works just fine. But you can CHOOSE to add any of them, as you like.

So its a toolbox.

Quote from: Zachary The FirstSo, is the RC the greatest "all-in-one-book" RPG ever published?  In terms of completeness, I'd have to say yes, or very close to the top.  What are your thoughts on or candidates for the top spot for "all-in-one" RPGs?

It's second only to Fudge 10th Anniversary Edition to me. I guess you can read my long-ass review at RPG.Net if you're curious why.
In order to qualify as a roleplaying game, a game design must feature:

1. A traditional player/GM relationship.
2. No set story or plot.
3. No live action aspect.
4. No win conditions.

Don't like it? Too bad.

Not that that takes much effort.  ;)

I've been pondering grabbing T20 for a long time.  So far the main exposure to it I've had is in the Firefly mod for NWN that adopted the rules.  It seems like an interesting enoguh system.

I can't at all agreee on the RC, simply because of what the RC is:  Pre-3.0 D&D.  And I can't stand old D&D, never could.  3.0 is the first version of the game I've actually like, even loved.

I will however agree on the suggestion upthread of Sailor Moon.  That was an absolutely excellent book.  It's also the best version of BESM ever printed.
