This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Alpha Blue. I'm curious about it.

I have looked it over on RPGNow. The game seems interesting to me. Which means, I'm likely going to buy it.

I have a big love of schlock scifi. So this game really appeals to me.

But it's hard to get any details from such small summeries. So if anyone has experience with this game and could share further details. I very much would apppreciate it.

Speaking of both art and game content, it's easily the most sexual of all the games I own. It often delves into some kinks that aren't for everybody. If that's at all an issue for you, then I'd recommend passing.

That said, the PDFs are pretty entertaining reads. The setting is a giant mix of a dozen or more different sci-fi shows/movies with some real-world craziness thrown in for good measure. For me, the setting and GM tables are really good and I could see having a lot of fun with them, though my group would never go for Alpha Blue. I wouldn't be against using it for one-shots or short adventures with a more adventurous group, though.

As fun as the setting seems, the actual system is very bare-bones. It's not my taste at all and I'd definitely use something else to run Alpha Blue, but your mileage may vary. It's a very simple system using d6, and even the books tend not to spend too much time on mechanics in favor of saving space for more information on wild fetishes or crazy sex droids. I'd probably slap together a simple Mini Six hack for it if I were to run it as AB definitely seems like the kind of game where you don't want a particularly complicated engine slowing things down and getting in the way of just tossing some dice and having outrageous fun.

For me, Alpha Blue crosses the line in having too much sleaze too boiled in to the game; it's in every line. I like a bit of raunch in my games but for sci-fi I'd rather add a bit of Barbarella to my White Star game than have to deal with Venger Satanis' Magical Realm. Basically, the problem here is that Venger dialed it up to the level he was comfy with - which is about 3 notches beyond what I'm comfy with. If your tastes happen to coincide with his, you'll enjoy it. I think for most people it would have been better if he'd dialled it down a bit.

(I would say, Alpha Blue itself is actually less sleazy than the supplements/adventures).

It's an incoherent mess with X-rated artwork, like pretty much all his other products.  The idea of a sleazy sci-game is great, but this doesn't really deliver a playable game. (You might check out Machinations of the Space Princess which is a better game and sleazy, but with PG art).

The gaming world (IMHO) needs someone like Venger, but I really wish he was more focused on producing quality, not simply spamming products. But his genius seems to lie in marketing, not design/writing.

As sort of mentioned above, it likely would have been better if it were a setting or based on a D6 variant (either Mini6 or the Star Opera D6 used by Star Wars) or maybe even Traveller (though that likely would require much more work and so would never happen)

Please post what you consider to be the most outrageous sleaze Venger's got in Alpha Blue. Let's see it word for word. AKA, that way everyone who's ABCurious will know what Venger's top scale kink might be.

I love Venger's Islands of Purple Haunted Putrescence and consider it among the best OSR books, but I'm not the GM for adding sleaze to my RPGs. I'm a gore hound which is a different fetish.  Venger's Purple Islands are FOR ME the nigh perfect setting for gonzo old school.

I liked Isles a lot. I liked - and GM'd - Liberation of the Demon Slayer too, complete with alien biotech rape demons. Revelry in Torth seemed decent but not used it.

But those all have occasional sleaze. With AB it's not the extremity, it's that it's in every line, there's no rest.

As was mentioned, the main Alpha Blue book is actually fairly tame compared to the supplements. The majority of it is your basic sci-fi roleplaying stuff designed to give GMs tons of ideas to work with and fill in information about the crazy setting of AB. I'll mostly post summaries as the exact wording for much of this doesn't matter or I'd have to copy multiple paragraphs and I usually don't care to do that. Looking over the character creation bits, there is a detachable penis in the random mutations table, a few weird sexual alien quirks like grabbing someone's genitals whenever you meet them for the first time, and a table of sexual fetishes that includes things like tentacle rape, necrophilia, bestiality, and golden/brown showers among more mundane kinks like feet or stockings.

Moving on, there's some background information and then we get to Alpha Blue itself, which is basically Space Las Vegas complete with a bunch of space hookers called satisfiers. Then we move on to some weird stuff--alien orgasmatrons, mind condoms, and special little blue pills that heighten the sexual experience. After a bit more we move on to the stuff everybody is looking forward to, venereal diseases. Some of the more descriptive include:

QuoteDick Explosion: If you have this and someone puts their dick inside you, their dick explodes.
Xeno-sores: Genital sores that eventually burst like an egg-sac, releasing 2d6 tiny alien creatures.
OPP: (orgiastic psychic parasite) this creature lives in hyperspace and feeds off the life energy of its host, in
return making them so insatiably horny that host organisms eventually sex themselves until they die. The
parasite is transmitted via sexual fluids, so even a single case could eventually lead to a massive death-orgy.
A little later we get a random table of the first things visitors see when they first come to Alpha Blue. A few choice bits:
Quote2d4 pleasure-bots are performing fellatio upon a wyrmslorr while utilizing a sexual device that looks like neon chopsticks.
A voluptuous satisfier is trying to insert a space pineapple up her vagina. She's got it nearly halfway so far. A
small crowd has gathered to enjoy the show.
Moving along, we eventually get to the table where you can randomly decide what position people are in when someone walks in on them having sex (yes, such things exist in this game). Some entries include:
QuoteLaser fisting
Kneeling star fox
Creepy sleep assault
Crouching penis, hidden vagina
Hand job (2 in 6 chance of it being a foot job)
We've got a pleasure dome, slave auction... all the sort of stuff you'd expect in a den of debauchery. At last we reached the real piece of controversy in AB:
QuoteRape Machine
Originally built as an automated penetration device, the templars of a dark god modified it to rape unwilling subjects. These templars used the device as punishment for disobedience, but soon the rape machine became a public spectacle that satiated their twisted lust for pain and degradation.

There are certainly templars aboard Alpha Blue - some probably worship demonic deities. Chances are that one of those cults will have a rape machine for "cleansing the palate".
Last but not least, we have these enemies from the close to the back of the book:
QuoteSiren Squirters
An elite squad of combat-ready Satisfiers who can ejaculate a mind-altering liquid from their vaginas.

Health: 30 Armor: 0 Attack Dice Pool: 3d6 [Level: 2]
Special: When at least 10 points of damage is scored, the ejaculation also finds its target. Hallucinations can last up to an hour.
So that's some of the more risque stuff in the core book. It's not everything, and as has been said the supplements tend to be more sexually explicit. But this at least should give someone a good idea of whether or not the level of graphic sexual stuff in AB is too much or not.

RPGPundit

In terms of system, Alpha Blue is very bare-bones and not very impressive.  Machinations of the Space Princess is a similar game and is much more mechanically coherent, as well as being an actual OSR game.

But in terms of setting, Alpha Blue has all those supplements and so there's a lot of material, and some of the non-smutty material is pretty clever and/or amusing. There are some random tables that are very re-usable for other gonzo play (Sci-fi or fantasy); though some other random tables are all but useless.

And of course, there's the massive amount of smut. Which doesn't interest me at all.
