This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: HalfjackIf you want a little extra abstraction and like Spirit of the Century, we as an exercise last night tried to make Traveller work in that Fate 3 framework.  Our assumption going in was that the result would be ridiculous.  Instead it's shaping up to look more like fun.  If you want to use any or all, please feel free.

Obviously this is incomplete at this time and relies heavily on having Classic black box Traveller for most of the sandbox stuff inherent in the original work -- system generation and so forth.

Don't have SotC, but the way that FATE "assembles" characters in a psuedo-lifepath manner seems like it would be very workable with Traveller.

I'd play.
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

Quote from: Christmas ApeBut then, I have a general aversion to handling guns with d20. Just a twitch of mine, man. Others differ. Plus, I can't make heads or tales of this Megatraveller (I hear badly edited?), New Era (virus thing? Like the Jamie Lee Curtis movie?), 2300AD horseshit, so I'm going straight to the source.

I'll add that the gun combat rules in CT aren't very satisfying either.  While on your vintage game binge, grab Striker as well.  The rules for gun combat in Striker are deeply satisfying, assume Traveller weapons, include rules for creating new weapons, and are easily adapted into the CT system.  On top of that, exploring edge cases in vehicle design with Striker can lead to hilarity.

Quote from: jrientsSome people are idiots.  At its heart, Traveller is about nothing more than zipping around space getting into trouble.

Getting into trouble was no problem at all. Just try to use the combat system...

I like Fate 3 - SotC I turned out to be a little lukewarm on in places, but it's still a great system. Thanks, I'll check it out later.

As to your point about Striker, I think one of the Collector's Edition books is all the subgames for CT. Let me look.

Booyakasha.
Heroism is no more than a chapter in a tale of submission.

The internet recognizes only five forms of self-expression: bragging, talking shit, ass kissing, bullshitting, and moaning about how pathetic you are. Combine one with your favorite hobby and get out there!

I bought that a while ago for Mayday, Snapshot (X-Com anyone?), and Dark Nebula.  I forgot Striker was in it!  Yay!

I have a similiar problem in that all of my favorite RPGs are homebrews. It's an equally hard sell.

What's the problem with the combat system in TNE? I heard good things about the system, is there some bug?

James Bond 007 RPG-  By Victory Games- I have everything that came out for this game and the system was really ahead of it's time.

The nice thing about D6 is, unless you already have everything made for it, you could buy a supplement a month (on eBay or used bookstore) and still not have them all for years. :)

Running: HarnMaster, and prepping for Werewolf 5.

Don't worry, as others will no doubt rush to tell you, there are plenty of times when I'm unwise, so it all balances out :p

Yep.  It's amazing how well done the books are.  It's too bad WEG went down hill and it's too bad the WEG lost the license for it.

However with the D6 Space book you can easily run a Star Wars game with the updated system.

WEG's books were so exhaustive and covered so much of the Star Wars universe that at one point prior to the prequels, they were actually one of the chief reference works for the official Star Wars encyclopedia.

They added a hell of a lot of content to the SW universe, but somehow managed to do it well enough that none of it ever felt horridly out of place, the way a lot of the silly crap FASA did with Star Trek and Doctor Who for instance.
