This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

All My Favorite RPGs Are Out Of Print

The two best iterations of Traveller -- MegaTraveller and T20 -- are both out of print. Fortunately, you can get both electronically (though the electronic MT is a scan so a little annoying.)

DC Heroes (mayfair, not the d6 piece of crap) is still the best Supers game by me, alas long gone.

Fortunately, my fave fantasy and espionage games are still steaming along.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

Any game that's my favourite, I own, so I don't really care if it's in print or not.

Now that whole "T20 is the best Traveller" statement is a fight waiting to happen.  I have a copy you can have if you need an extra.

Quote from: jrientsOne of the reasons I play 3.5 is so that I don't feel like a relic.  Most of my favorite games were out of print before your favorites were published.  Still, I try to do some one shots and con events with older games.

I'm in the same boat, but isn't the solution simply to pitch the thing to your regular group? But that is MY problem... I don't have the time to GM any more, so I'm reduced to saying, "Um, would somebody care to run Privateers & Gentlemen for me?"

I've never had any problem getting people to play whatever game I want to run (excepting supers stuff, which people have to have a definite taste for)not since the early days, anyway. I don't usually ask, though, i just plunk it down and say, "Hey check this out, it's what we're playing." But if it's a dud, I always pull it quick.

Rather than get in a fight (it's all about opinions, neh), I'd gladly take you up on your offer.

Need me to pay shipping, of if you happen to know Jeff Ranger AKA Teflon Billy, who lives in your neck of the woods, I could possibly persuade him to bring it with him to GenCon.

Heh, uh, what about sending that copy to someone for whom it wouldn't be an extra?

Yeah.  For example, I've never played Traveller.

Just sayin'.

I prefer to see every copy of T20 in one place where we can keep an eye on it.    :D  But if you guys want to mud wrestle over it, go nuts.

If you're serious, I'll be serious and suggest that T20 would be an inferior place to start with Traveller.  With so many wildly divergent versions, obviously any preference at all is a potential firefight starter, but I'd head closer to the roots for a first impression.

I've only played T:NE. Some people think that's worse than not playing at all.

My intention for Traveller is to snap up all the Collector's Editions (all the original black books, bound by category into one tome each...well, two for Aliens) on FRPGames at once, the week after I convince my group to play a Traveller game. :D

But then, I have a general aversion to handling guns with d20. Just a twitch of mine, man. Others differ. Plus, I can't make heads or tales of this Megatraveller (I hear badly edited?), New Era (virus thing? Like the Jamie Lee Curtis movie?), 2300AD horseshit, so I'm going straight to the source.
Heroism is no more than a chapter in a tale of submission.

Some people are idiots.  At its heart, Traveller is about nothing more than zipping around space getting into trouble.

Whereas TNE is about establishing a fascist pocket empire.

If you want a little extra abstraction and like Spirit of the Century, we as an exercise last night tried to make Traveller work in that Fate 3 framework.  Our assumption going in was that the result would be ridiculous.  Instead it's shaping up to look more like fun.  If you want to use any or all, please feel free.

Obviously this is incomplete at this time and relies heavily on having Classic black box Traveller for most of the sandbox stuff inherent in the original work -- system generation and so forth.

I will say that while lately I've actually begun to like this & that about T4 (chargen, setting), and even this & that about the MT setting (Arrival Vengeance = like, whoa!)... I don't see it happen for TNE.

It's not so much because of what it is (though that is hard to swallow), it's because of what it destroyed. That's disgusting. It's like nuking Greyhawk from orbit and then rebuilding Eberron on the ruins.
