This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

One way to see it.  Animal House is often an apt metaphor, though I think some of these threads have been more like the Toga Party.  I'll let you choose who is Neidermeyer.

Thanks, guys. I'm a D&D guy, through and through. Cut my teeth on the Holmes blue book back in late '80 / early '81, and later moved on to AD&D until '89. Was out of gaming for almost two years, and when I got in a new group by '91, it was 2e, which I stuck with until '00, though heavily house ruled once I became the constant DM again.

Then I heard about 3e, and that they were bringing Gygax back in the fold, so that hooked me (what a sucker, eh?). I tried 3e for a few years, and I found a great distaste for it, switched to C&C for about a year or so, but that was not really to my tastes either (though not bad, really!), so now I run my own system which has been in development for about 5 years, though only 2 years of serious development/play-test.

Other than that, we play some super-hero stuff here and there. We tried M&M a while back, but no one liked the combat system. Right now we've been playing some Marvel Super-Heroes like it's 1985, and I'm digging it.

Cheers,
Jeff T.

Welcome to hell, G. You should fit right in. Watch out for a certain user who doesn't want to game with any gamer who's created his own system.

Thanks. Hey, nice avatar, Pundit. Gangs of New York is a great movie. Recently I watched it for the third time, and it held up. The move is solid.

Sure, I quite enjoyed Gama World when I was younger, and would welcome playing it again some day. In my D&D game, I ported some of the items and concepts as suggested in the DMG, and it proved fun and unpredictable for my players; at least it did when we were teenagers in the '80s. ;)

I had the 1983 boxed set (2nd edition), but I've always been curious about the 3rd edition version that uses the same color based chart system that Marvel Super-Heroes used.

Psst... your AS&S is showing. :D Shouldn't it be AS&SH?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Akrasia -- Well, the game has been in playtest for a long time now, something I strongly believe in whether you're designing/developing a 5-page adventure, or a 150-page rule book. Presently the world map is about to be shipped to my cartographer, 98% of the art is in, and the most recent beta is about to be sent out to my readers/playtesters, though a few of them have life situations that preclude them from participating as much as they would've liked, so I might seek a few more willing participants quite soon. For the longest time my goal was "Summer 2010" but this does not seem as likely now that it's the middle of July. I also have to start my North Wind Adventures fund raiser, which is going to consist of selling my personal collection of Castle Zagyg Upper Works boxed sets, each set including one of my original hand-drawn maps used for the final product. So, as I put the final touches on this latest beta ms. and as Ian turns in the last few pieces of art, I find myself ready for the next stage, but unwilling to provide a hard ETA date because all the participants in the project have other jobs, families, etc. So, sorry for the long-winded answer, and I do appreciate the interest.

Butcher -- Yes, I'm aware of the "ASS", and I'm happy it gives folks a good chuckle from time to time, even if it's at my own expense. I don't take myself too seriously, after all. Most of the time I do refer to the game as AS&SH or AS&SoH. It's all good. ;)

Jeff T.
