This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Anyone know about the ADOM Role-Playing game?

Just found about it's existence, was it a one-time release for backers or is Thomas Biskup holding it for bigger "modern" release? It takes place in a roguelike I enjoy but otherwise I know nothing about it, Is it any good and is it worth hunting for old copies/Older editions if there are any? I've heard bad things about videogame to TTRPG adaptations (Sea of Thieves, Witcher, Dark Souls) but maybe this is the exception?

WTF is ADOM?

Toenail, why're you always posting this obscure BS?

TTRPGs are just games. Friends are forever.

An old grid/turn-based game flavoured with high-fantasy, Moral Alignments, Pantheons, and Relics bestowed upon by the gods for unwavering service; Using terminal characters as graphics, An average village looks like this attachment I've included.

I'm always hunting high and low for things of the past, it's a neat time-killer.

You want a "time-killer"? Try "TV Tropes". Took me months to escape that fkn mega-dungeon.

Looks like somebody's homebrewed Blades in the Dark. You should get it!

My megadungeon is looking at old Urban Dictionary entries.

I'll take a look see at BitD and see what it's about, thanks for the response!

ADOM is cool  (I espcially like the with-graphics version) but I have no idea about this RPG!

As I recall they released a small rpg in one of their funding drives.  It received very limited release, but there was discussion of expanding it and re-releasing.  That never happened as they did not have time to develop both the rpg and the actual computer game it is based on.

Later, they kickstarted a new ADOM RPG, which funded in 2019.  Unfortunately, shortly after that the company received a lot of capital from a new investor to expand the game as well as start some new projects.  The owner decided that he couldn't spare the development time for the RPG, so he cancelled the project and refunded all the backers.

I believe some of the drafts of the second rpg are floating around on the web somewhere if you really want to take a look.  I may have some of it, but it's likely it went down with my last computer (which failed late last year).  The old site is still up here;

I backed the KS, but got refunded after it was determined the game would never be completed. Very annoying since I missed the first go around with the limited release RPG that is impossible to get.

ADOM is one of the better roguelikes, but since it's essentially just D&D with a ton of custom races/classes, you could probably run it without much trouble. Still, the book would have been nice to have.
