This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: RPGPundit;558076What I'm waiting for are the shit-fits that will emerge from pretty much the exact OPPOSITE of what you're talking about: some fucking idiot who'll be complaining that they CORRECTED a typo in the original, claiming that "WoTC is sucking the charm/life/memory of gygax/whatever out of the original" by daring to actually not moronically slavishly copy everything word for word including even what was glaringly obvious as an unintentional mistake.

RPGPundit

HA!  You're totally spot-on there.

Seriously, 1e AD&D has been my game of choice since the '80s, but Christ-a'mighty it's almost embarrassing to admit that these days.
For fuck\'s sake, these are games, people.

And no one gives a fuck about your ignore list.

Hm, I wonder if they'll fix the 5th level cleric missing title typo in the Player's Handbook

I couldn't care less about fixing minor typos.  The biggest draw to me is the prose and artwork.  As long as that is there, I'll be getting a set.
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

Visionaries for the win. I had those toys, and remember the cartoon.

Even though I have bought more than 10 copies (and given away 9) of the 1e DMG in the past year, the new books look pretty good overall.  I might have to pick the DMG up!

As to retyping, I suspect that they wanted to have the books in digital format, rather than shooting new stats.  Chris Perkins, not the WOTC one, basically rewrote everything in his amazing Adnd3e (no link provided).

For some reason, those old books don't OCR very well, believe me, there are a few editions of the DMG pdf floating around (including the one I purchased) and I have tried every method I can (there could be some I haven't tried too) but they don't OCR at all.  Not sure why, though.

It sounds like WOTC had a hellofatime doing these books, which makes it doubtful there will be a flood of others like them.
Miniature Mashup with the Fungeon Master  (Not me, but great nonetheless)

Any bets on WotC being hammered for unlicensed reproduction of artwork, a'la the Dragon Compendium CDs?

Nope.  Won't happen.  The art was done on-spec and paid for a long, long, long time ago.  The only people who "hammered" TSR on the Dragon Magazine Archive were Kenzer & Co., because the very latest issues of the magazine that were reproduced contained Knights of the Dinner Table strips.

The art looks great!

I have to point out that none of the alleged concerns had any basis in fact, and this is undoubtedly the most beautiful printing of a D&D edition in the game's history.

Yeah, I've been stupidly enchanted by my new books for days now.  I was ridiculously pleased at getting to use the Monster Manual for a few seconds during my Albion game last night.
