This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Abortion d20.

I don't think abortion needs a whole product dedicated to it.  Doing so is obviously a controversy ploy.

The good points that GRIM picked out would be better served in larger context product, such as one dealing with political processes in the U.S. or medical-based campaigns, etc.

I think you're just too close to this one to be too critical, GRIM.  Sorry.

Well, that would certainly explain how you knew his stance. :)

followup question if you don't mind: 5 out of 5 stars? You honestly think that this is amongst the best gaming products ever written? That it is so good it should be on every gamer's shelf (or at least every d20 modern gamer)?

Quote from: GRIMOverall I rate the product a 4, but I'm giving it a 5 for having balls and for pleasantly surprising me in terms of quality.
He rated it positively because it was controversial, and wasn't total crap.

Each of us has our own yardstick of quality. GRIM's measure is how super shock edgy cool something is, combined with, "well, it's not total crap."

I could think of more useful measures of quality, myself, but...

That struck me as odd, too.  It's like having a d20 supplement about appendectomies or vaccines.

I read this just now and thought of GRIM and LPD

Shock-art veteran Marco Evaristti wants visitors to his latest exhibition to eat meatballs made from his own fat.

The Chilean-Danish artist underwent liposuction to produce 48 meatballs for what he calls a criticism of the plastic surgery industry.

Evaristti says his meatballs aren't just delicious, they're nutritious. And lucky visitors don't only get to eat his fat, they can also buy a can of the meatballs for a mere $5,120 a can.
"The question of whether or not to eat human flesh is more important than the result," he said. "You are not a cannibal if you eat art."

Following that rationale, perhaps you're not logical if you make art.

Your area has seen appendectemy clinics bombed and vaccine manufacturers murdered to protect viral rights? Yikes! Remind me not to visit siuE-E-E-E-E if I'm feeling ill!

Quote from: StumpydaveSo given the response here and at rpgnet, are we as gamers not allowed to address mature and sensitive issues? are we restricted solely to games of fantasy and the unreal?

I can imagine a game that treats this topic as a mature and sensitive issue.  This game looks more like it's treating it in an immature and insensitive way. :(

Yes, we're a hotbed of Christian Science extremism.

Quote from: Consonant DudeNo, it doesn't. Since one has to be desperate and incompetent to associate with LPJ, we can still safely conclude this product will be crap.

I was neither, I was already full-time when Louis called but got special permission to do Haven with Louis, because it was a great setting and a product worth doing.

And Louis was a good guy to work for. Id work for him again in a heartbeat if I were not committed to a single company.

And saying you can "safely" assume a product that isnt even OUT yet is crap makes you look like a dumbass.

Which I guess is appropriate.

Why all the venom? Did Louis beat you up in the 3rd grade or something?

Maybe he bought one of LPD's products.

I've bought a lot of Louis products. Some are good, some not my cup of tea.

Id like to point out the only review up from someone who DID buy THIS product gave it 5 stars.

But hey, nothing like judging something you haven't read.

Dr Rotwang!

I'm just trying to figure out where you blur the line between social experiment and entertainment, as well as why -- especially when you're talking about RPGs.

He also explained why he gave it that rating - he liked it as a controversial thing, regardless of its actual value, content or usefulness, and he was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't total crap.

Going by the review's words as well as its rating, I think we can put that rating in a proper perspective.

Again this implication that we have to buy everything, or remain utterly silent about it.

No.

No, not what Im saying at all.

Im saying if you haven't read something, you can say you don't think it will appeal to you and won't buy it, that it appears in poor taste, etc.

The comment *I* was responding to said the product was dumb and written for a dumb audience.

I have a problem with that sort of comment about something you never read.

And I like how you dismiss the comment from the guy who read the book, and defend the comment from the folks who havent.

Classy.

That sucks for you.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll know to avoid the stuff you write like the plague.
