This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I kid you not.

What's the AC of a lab coat versus assault rifle bullets?
In order to qualify as a roleplaying game, a game design must feature:

1. A traditional player/GM relationship.
2. No set story or plot.
3. No live action aspect.
4. No win conditions.

Don't like it? Too bad.

Looking at this guy's other five-page products, I'm not too surprised.  Ever since Public Enemy (if not earlier), everyone has realized that controversy is a great way to drive sales.  I mean, at least people are talking about this, right?  Who knows, maybe some retards will actually pay money for this "for lulz."

Probably zero.

I have no doubt that there will be morons buying that product.

The fact Louis Porter is still in business after all those years implies that he has found a niche of extremely retarded individuals willing to buy pure crap.

Did you ever think you and Skarka would have something in common?

That's a sad RPG supplement there.  Scraping the bottom of the barrel and begging for controversy to sell the thing.  Then again LPJ isn't known for it's top quality material.  Hell I still remember the 'Dobule Agent' pdf, it's supposed to be Double but evidently he didn't pay attention to the big red letters he put on the front cover of the thing.

Yeah. Saw that. Thought about posting, but then I just thought that would make me implicit in publicizing this. I thought it might pass unnoticed if I didn't say anything.

Fat chance with that, eh?

Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

What's also fascinating to me, is that he's gone throguh a fascinating amount of effort to cop Rockstar North's artstyle as well.

Even the art design is trying to feed off someone else's controversy.

What I said on RPGnet then...

"I'm late to the show and it looks like the white knight brigade has already trampled all over everything but... while the execution of the product may or may not be all that there's lots to examine in this whole debate and some of the extremism around it that could potentially be very interesting and/or useful from a modern roleplaying perspective.

I don't see much point in d20ising it and reducing it to PrCs and feats etc but the whole subculture of extreme anti-abortionist culture is ripe for use in all sorts of things, Unknown Armies would be one, @ctiv8 another, even things like Delta Green or d20 Call of Cthulu could make use of some of these tropes."

I just think people should... perhaps, you know, LOOK at things and consider them properly before trying to establish their PC credentials by shouting.

It's not a matter of being "politcally correct" or not. It's just lame and stupid as a topic for a campaign.

I know that you like to be Mr Super Shock Edgy Cool, Grim, but this ain't super shock edgy cool, it's just lame. That's pretty common for stuff which tries too hard to shock, but still.

That's not the fucking point. It's LPJ and thus, it's crap.

All the guy ever does is appeal to morons. I'm not really offended by abortion d20. I think people who buy LPJ products deserve to waste their money.

You can moan about "PC credentials" and all that stuff. It takes a numbnut to even entertain the thought this product will have any redeeming qualities whatsoever.

I don't know, his clipart stuff is pretty good.
If I used d20 for my modern gaming, which I don't, I could already see some redeeming features in the feature list and it is an area that has lots of themes and ideas that are rich in possibility. He may well do a lame job of it, but nobody knows that yet, they're just twitching at the word 'Abortion'.

I'm with Grim on this.  Sure it's probably not everyones cup of tea, but it seems people are going "Abortion OMFG!" rather than seeing this as anything other than inevitable.

Sure, it's an emotive subject but does that mean we, as roleplayers, aren't allowed to explore the subject - if we choose - through are chosen medium?

Of course not.  What people are saying is that this looks like a crap product.

But who knows -- maybe you and GRIM are right.  Maybe these will be the best five pages written for d20 ever and this isn't just pathetic controversy whoring, despite the author himself calling it "the most controversial product to be released for D20 since the Book of Erotic Fantasy" (*snicker*).

Please get my position straight.
LPJ isn't exactly renown for fantastic products, but people are passing judgement sight-unseen. I have some personal investment in this because the RPGnet hyena pack has done the same to me in the past and unlike here you can't bite back because the modclique closes ranks and shuts you down. Debate  or argument against the prevailing wind is usually impossible. Hell, go look for yourself on RPGnet.

This product may well be crap, but people aren't reacting to the product (aside from the PrC the content actually looks fairly good - if you like d20 for your modern games) they're reacting to the word 'Abortion' and all desperately trying to establish their 'right on' credentials.

Fuck that.

It is a legitimate topic with a great deal of applicability in games and the content of the book as proposed looks generally useful should you decide to run a game incorporating those political and social themes.
