Title: A RPG Theory needs to explain RPG facts
Post by: estar on May 31, 2007, 11:51:26 AM
Well perhaps a problem with RPG Theory is that theories need to explain facts (aside being testable and falsifiable)

This may be interest to some as it is a somewhat rigorous survey exploring the motivations of gamers.

QuoteThe Discovery Narrative, having an interest in the game's narrative elements that allow a level of wish fulfillment.

    * The underlying motivational components of this factor were:
          o the game's story
          o explore places I normally couldn't
o interesting characters in the game
          o do something I normally can't
          o wondering what came next

This factor was one of two statistically significant factors (the other is creative control)  I find it interesting as my fantasy game, using the Wilderlands of High Fantasy, is all about exploration and making your mark, doing a lot of things listed under Discovery Narrative. Maybe why I am able to have fun with a large variety of people over the years.

Enjoy

I agree, but shouldn't this be in the theory forum?
