Title: A question about Star Trek Adventures the RPG
Post by: Darrin Kelley on November 08, 2024, 10:31:32 PM
Does this game take special dice?

I'm considering buying the latest edition. But I have found information on the dice the game uses to be rather thin.

No. The 2nd edition only uses the d20, and you'll want at least 5, but probbly more if you don't want to hand the dice around from player to player.

Nah, nothing weird.

It does actually.  It uses custom D6 challenge dice with special symbols for damage and effects.  These can be substituted for a regular D6 with minimal effort though.  It's a bit like Genesys where effect symbols can be traded for various rules effects but much less involved and complicated.

This is totally incorrect. The 2e STA does not use any dice other than d20s.

Tell us you haven't read the second edition without telling us you did.

That may have been true with the first edition of the game definitely not the second edition.

I am glad to hear that second edition is getting rid of the D6s. In my humble opinion, first edition rules were unnecessarily complex.
Did they keep momentum, threat, and determination?

This is a Modiphius game yes?

are there special pronoun dice and rules for transgender PCs?

The 1st edition of it merchandised 'special dice' themed to each department in Starfleet and also dice sets for Klingons and Romulans.

The 2nd edition seems to have dropped the 'special dice' stuff.

I got it not long ago. I read all of it tonight. And yes, I can confirm that they don't use any special dice now with 2nd Edition.

I was surprised when I looked through the character races section. All of them are positive.

They tried hard to put everything one needs to run Star Trek under one cover.

So as a player, this book gets high marks

I've never heard of a Romulan set before now. Must go search for a set!

I got the Star Trek Adventures 2nd Edition Starter Set today in the mail. It came with 5d20. Which are nice to have. And saved me a bunch of running around to get enough for my 2d20 games.

As a set? No. I did not.

I have a lot of dice sets that I do not like to break up, And yes there are D20s in them. But I prefer to keep them organized in their sets.

The solo star trek thing looked fun but honestly, Traveller already has lots of solo supplements.
