This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Dear Kevin,

Sorry I sold your puppy to those illegal crush-porn producers.  Won't happen again.  Maybe.

LOVE,
FG

P.S.  I really wish I'd listened to the ads in those old DC comics pimping out Robotech and the Megaverse.  I'm not joking at all. :(

I swear I have no hate for Palladium. I barely knew what it was until I got online in 2000. Obviously the cover art never attracted me.

I'm located in Cincinnati Ogio. The young lady in question is 29 years old...she is in TWO RPG groups. One of them plays nothing but Palladium. The other is a D&D  group...and sorry to tell you this - I think her RIFTS group is Women Players  only.

One of her  players lives in Columbus, Ohio ...two of them live in Dayton , Ohio.  The rest live here in the Cincinnati, Ohio area.
In Ohio, there seems  to be a LOT of attractive women who are into Role playing Games.

Oh and she felt too "old" at 29 compared to her players. Most of her players are between the ages of 19 and 25. When she and I went on a movie date - she thought it was nice that i was older than her.
So yeah ..Palladium has its fans and players around here. I don't play it - but I bump ito plenty of people around here that do.

I don't know that they're bright or socially adjusted enough to keep their pants on long enough to poop them. They're like monkeys that way, and if they didn't all throw like little invalid girls, forums full of "Pally haters" would be covered in feces...

In all seriousness, the fans should be dealt with on an individual basis. Some make asses of themselves in defending Palladium. Others don't. I don't want to tar them all with the same brush.

They like Palladium. I don't. As long as we're both able to express our opinions, I'm down with that.

Oh fuck all you assholes who bust on palladium players. Shit, it's an easy system, it's a big world and there's books for almost everything.

So maybe people like their sessions quick and easy to do, maybe they don't have time to make a lot of stuff on their own. So they like rifts because it's pretty easy to plkay and has lots of pregenerated stuff for it. So fucking what?

jesus tap dancing christ, so what if someone likes a system you don't? what the fuck makes you have to bust on them? shit, at least when I attack groups it's for a reason, a provocation, not just "I don't like them!!!' like some people busting on palladium gamers or that loud mouth pundy always busting on "the forge".

bust on people who do things to deserve it, not just because they like a game system you don't.

I thought their Northern Wilderness sourcebook and campaign book was pretty good. Also the Robotech rpg was apparently very popular in my school...although most Robotech players played nothin' else and the last I heard most of them were not gaming anymore.

I dunno man.  It's hard.

I mean, I really, really don't like Rifts.  I hate it in fact.  I think it's a complete fucking mess of a game, complete fucking mess of a setting, and basically doesn't deserve to exist.  I also hate it for the fact that I got stuck playing that, and only that, for years because it was all my exceedingly unimaginative GM would play for some godawful reason.

There's parts of it I like.  I still think SAMAS armor is damn cool for instance.  I think the Coalition makes for a great villain, which is why I dislike the seeming attempts at rehabilitating their image of late.

At the same time though, I can't muster up much hate for it's fans.  Maybe some scorn for the 30 people dumb enough to let themselves be sukered into Palladium's latest public panhandling attempt.

Hell, one of the events that led to me being permanently labelled "pain in the ass" by thr RPGnet mods, was when I joined in  throng calling out Darren for posting a big fat troll of the "Palladium fans are all juvenile rob Liefield fans" variety.

So, just outta curiousity, what happened to darren for posting a flamebait like that? (Of course we know nothing happened, I just wanted it said.)

This doesn't really have anything to do with anything, but I played in a Rifts game at OrcCon over last weekend, using the RISUS system rather than the Palladium system. It was pretty durn fun too.

Other than that, the only thing I really know about Kevin Siembieda is that he used to do illustrations for old Judges Guild modules.

I've used Risus for it, too!  It's a lot of fun, especially if you're going for more of the gonzo or Road Warrior-esque end of things.

The con game I played in was set just prior to the big fall. Our group was a bunch of hired mercs who went on a kidnapping recovery mission in the mountains near Mexico City. Just as we completed our job and we were heading out in our chopper, we saw Mexico City off in the distance getting nuked. Then we saw all the ley lines coming into existence. Things got massively fucked from there.

I had a great character. His Risus cliches were:
Superhuman Athlete on Steroids ****
Deadly Assassin with an Attitude ***
Racing Towards Death With a Smile **
Personal Life is a Train Wreck **

I played 'em to the hilt, too, lemme tell ya. He died getting snapped in half by a weird android-dinosaur that he'd been riding like a bucking bronco!

TheQuestionMan

Played TMNT and Robotech. I even played a few sessions of RIFTS, but the System never really "clicked" with me. I followed the standard progression I guess. D&D, GURPS, Hero, etc...

Oddly enough the Settings did "click". Mostly pieces here and there.

Enjoy, have fun, and see yah at the gaming table.
