This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A Public Apology to Kevin Siembieda

If people want to help palladium they should do 3 things:

1. Do intelligent, consistent conversion mechanics for palladium stuff.

2. Post these on a website.

3. Politely ignore KS when he bitches about them ans demands tney be taken down.

As I said, I'd consider buying some rifts stuff if there was a conversion system that was reasonable and consistent but to do that I'd have to relearn the palladium system and I'm not up for that.

Quote from: KoltarThere are two really HOT women that stop in the store that run RIFTS - and I still haven't switched to playing it .  One of their campaign groups is all young women in their 20s.

Where are you located?  I need to move there right away!  :please:

I've noticed that on the purple toilet every time someone starts a rifts thread it instantly becomes a flamefest. Do you post rifts threads there?

Not anytime in the past 6 months or so.

As I've said, every time someone starts one there that I've seen, on the rare occasion I wasn't Cessnaed ("Cessnaed" meand unfairly IP banned.) every mention of rifts started a tirade of jeers, abuse, flames, etc.

Now I admit I don't like the palladium system, but hell, I can let people talk about it without attacking them.

But then again I'm more honest and tolerant than most people there or here.

For me, there's always been a disconnect there.  There are games and gamers and developers I just plain don't like, but I've never made it a mission to post in every thread regarding Disliked Subject X or Y about how crappy it is and is the bastion of retards or the feeble-minded or whatever.  There's honest criticism of a system or developer or whatever, and then there's just the perpetual threadcrapping that I see sometimes (from several different forums) when anything Palladium comes up.

Now take jgants.  He and I differ widely on several topics about Palladium, but we get along pretty darn well. I love his Rifts AP thread--I think it's a great illustration of the kind of great stories you can have with Rifts and how it can really work well.  But he's got his criticisms, and he manages to do it without sounding like he caught Kevin S. boning his mom when he was in the 2nd grade.  It's a lesson others could learn from.  You get that rabid and critical of an RPG not named Racial Holy War or a gaming company, and I just can't relate. Hell, yeah, criticize, analyze, rant, that's what we're here for.  But when you see the same old shits line up to take their shots every time out, it's like, "Man, were you abused as a child by an inanimate copy of Rifts:  Japan or something"?

RIFTS is one of the Palladium Books games that I enjoyed a lot when I was 16, along with TMNT and Robotech.  These days I have some appreciation for Splicers and Systems Failure, but I would never run any Palladium Books RPG using the rules as-written; I'd always using something else--d20 by default--and attempt to revise what's written into something closer to its full potential.

BESM3 has once again revived my urge to convert Rifts to something/anything else.

Of the systems, I think TMNT/After the Bomb is the best example of the game engine, and the most playable.

I liked Splicers, but it's not really the sort of thing I'd want to run.  Although, on my read through, it seems to have inherited the Rifts problem of every enemy you can encounter is godlike in ability.

God dammit. I can go to other sites for this sort of measured discussion. I wanted a big fucking hate-on and lots of flamewars in this thread. :(

I think Palladium Games deserves to perish. I think they're playing on the sympathy of the public and their fans to help them recover from a disaster that while not entirely of their own making, was certainly preventable.

What's worse is that they're asking for help, but refusing to do their part by not disclosing to the people they're asking help from the details of why they need it. I understand why they have to keep some things to themselves, but there's a lot of light they could shed on the subject and they're not. Because it would make them look more incompetent.

And what they do say often doesn't add up.

Their rules are a mess.

They're woefully behind the times in terms of technology. They're literally using design technology that was in its heyday when my grandfather was young. He used wax machines to lay out ads during the 35 years that he worked at the local paper.

Their cutting and pasting of mistakes is ridiculous.

They're paranoid about their IP. Outside of fans, who really cares about the setting? Unless they're re-selling your IP, threatening to sue the folks who are making it popular is dumb.

Finally, I like to call the Crises of Treachery the Circus of Treachery.

How's that? If you'd asked closer to their big announcement and the subsequent uproar, I'd have been much hotter under the collar. I said some things on ENWorld, but their message boards crashed and I think they're gone now...

Nothing you say takes away the awesome that is an Octoman firing eight Plasmaguns at Guy clad in Millennium Tree leaves going two dimensional to avoid being hit.

Just like nothing in the past or in the future will take away the great popmusic that the albums Bad and Thriller have on them.

Not bad, but I think your flamebait would become more effective with a few ad hominem attacks against Palladium fans. You know, calling them "pant-pooping retards" or something along those lines.
