This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A Public Apology to Kevin Siembieda

I'm sorry I never bought any of your games, man. Palladium Fantasy was mechanically weird, and Rifts was ass. I guess I kind of enjoyed Recon in a guilty pleasure kind of way, and come to think of it I did have one of your Northern Wilderness supplements for a while. But anyway, the point is, I could have done more to support your company, and I didn't. I'm sorry.

I'm sorry I never even looked at your stuff on the shelves because I was too busy playing RQ.

I'm sorry I listened to all the stupid shit that happened in every game of RIFTS I'd ever heard of.
I couldn't even bear to listen to them all without feeling superior in a swiney like way that the games I played were better.
I borrowed the RIFTS core rulebook the other day 'cause a friend was going to it. I'm sorry you write things like "experience points is a system for added realism, how many times have you read in comic books how a grizzled veteran saved the day".
I told him the game sounds even stupider now that I've read it, I'll spend my time doing other things.

Really, I'm sorry I didn't pay it when I was 10 years old. It would have been cool when I was 10.

Yeah, that link droog posted, coming on the heels of the for-profit company fundraiser to save Palladium. I'm just sorry I had no desire to shell out for autographed photocopies of your art, Kevin. I really would like to help.

(For a RIFTS fan, you're OK by me, Zach.)

I did really mean all that. I wish I did have Rifts when I was 10. I'm jealous of the wacky stories I hear that came from it. It's a lot like Star Wars. Nobody realizes just how bad those Star Wars movies really are because htey're having to much fun watching them.

Hey, guys, no worries all around.  Everyone's entitled to their own opinions.  Some folks think Rifts is crap.  Plenty others have issues with it.  Plenty others don't.  So long as someone isn't taking a dump directly on my gaming table or making me use the BS flag, I've got no friction. ;)  As for me, love Rifts (use a lot of different systems and get a lot of inspiration out of it), love Palladium Fantasy (ditto), and I like gods-damned out-and-out old-school gonzo enthusiasm.  And I think Bill Coffin is the best writer they ever had.  (I hope he ends up writing for some others lines, say C&C).

So, is this a "clone" of the same thread that I ignored on rpg.net (The Purple & Pink)??

There are two really HOT women that stop in the store that run RIFTS - and I still haven't switched to playing it .  One of their campaign groups is all young women in their 20s.

I still go to RENN Fest and the movies with them...never played RIFTS yet.

Meh, I have little sympathy for KS. He dug his own grave when he refused to let game sites do conversions for palladium stuff to other systems.

Now if KS had had any sense he'd have realized that a lot of people don't like/can't stand the palladium system BUT might buy at least some palladium books if they had a voncersion system to convert some of the cool stuff to other, more playable systems. And in the game business do you really care why people buy your stuff as long as they're actually buying it?!

I know some people wanted to do conversions from rifts to gurps, but those threads were instaquashed on the sjg forums :p  because KS had said he refused to allow conversions, even thogh if they're done for free and not sold I'm not how much he could do about them legally.

Hell, I used a gimmick out of a rifts game, a giant walking skull with spider legs, in a traveller game once, but only as a way a band of looters and raiders were exploiting primitive natives by pretending to be ancient demons demanding tribute. I ended up just using the pics and making some stats that created a very poor excuse for a war machine but was bad enough to terrorize primitives with.

If there were decent conversion guidelines I might have gotten at least one or two rifts books for source material, but there wasn't and I didn't.

As I said, KS killed a potential markjet for rifhts stuff with his hard headed and senseless refusal to allow conversions. His problem.

We could all go over once again everything that's wrong with Palladium Books, but I would rather say this: I've bought more of their books in the last few years than I ever did as a teen or twentysomething and I've enjoyed reading all of them.  I'm not sure I'd run another Palladium game (that last go at Heroes Unlimited was kinda rough), but there's a great deal of overlap between the thinking behind Rifts and TMNT and the kind of gaming that I like.  I even used my TMNT corebook for stat mods when I wanted to make a racoon mutant for an Encounter Critical game.

I thought I was the only one who posted Palladium threads.  Has my status as a unique little snowflake been revoked?

I like a lot of their color art (even the attack vagina cover of the latest rule book (*grrrrr!* *queef*) and I like the concept of Rifts.

(Of course, other than that, I really have nothing good to say about the company or its owner...)
