This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: The Butcher;834632Damn, that's really good. I like how you manage to pack so much inspiration in such a short document. And of course, it's a great ersatz-Transylvania.

Thank you for the kind words! I was striving for as much Gothic flavor in as few pages as possible. I still went over my self-imposed page limit though, alas.

QuoteJust curious, as the document is system-agnostic, but what ruleset are you running this with?

I am probably just going to use 5e D&D because I'm lazy and it already does what I want, but I also considered using Beyond the Wall.

Aos mentioned to me that the Savage World of Solomon Kane would be a good fit, and I tend to agree with that as well.

Oh, you could totally do it with SWoSK. Actually, unless you are looking for a more Howardian S&S magic system, you could do it with the core SW right out of the core book, ten bucks and done! The fantasy and horror companions would be very helpful. I believe the latter includes the gritty damage alternative, but you can get that for free no problem.

Now, Witch Hunter and Savage Worlds of Solomon Kane are kinda like kissing cousins. There are some things I think it does better than SW, but as a whole I have a hard time recommending anything over SW. It's just a fun game to play! If you haven't tried it, you really should. And if it doesn't scratch your itch, WH may do it.

One thing BOTH of these games do well that DnD5 doesn't  (as far as I understand it, I haven't played it so...) is they allow you to throw hordes of bad guys at the players and keep it exciting without things getting too ugly. WH has good minion rules, and SW is no slouch.

So anyway, yeah. I second Aos' suggestion. :)

I've played/run a lot of Rippers, Solomon Kane, and Deadlands Reloaded...pretty fun system, but I think the people I play with have been a bit burned out on it for a while, unfortunately.
