This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A more of a hobby/scene thread pointer

No, you just have to search *carefully*.  Besides my college friends, all of my RL friends are people I met over teh infraweb.

Posted the majority of the original message above. The replies on RPG.net were about 40% people saying umm, probably not, a few saying they'd give them a chance, and then a bunch of bitch-asses saying don't be mean, but not answering the question. So let's hear it?

after looking again at your original post... hmm, well...

i don't think this person would fit in well with us.  most in the group are much higher on the "socially well-adjusted geek" chart.  ;)
don't quote me on that.  :)

Can't say.  There isn't enough information available.  I've met enough people via the internet to know that you don't know what someone is going to be like tabletop until you actually meet them and spend some time face to face with them.  Some people turn out to be much cooler in person, some do not.

Edit: I would give them a chance in the sense of I would meet and interact with them to find out if they would be someone I want at the gaming table.  I wouldn't invite them straight out to game with us.

Put me down for "Um...probably not"

Every experience we've had trying to bring a total Freak-show into our gaming group (over the last 15years or so) has been almost entirely negative.

Call the experiment done and the results assimilated into our new paradigm.

Quote from: shooting_diceI game with my friends. It's all the "screening" I need.

That's certainly the best way to do it. My problem is that two years ago I moved across the country to a place where I had no connections or friends, and then moved again just a few months ago to a place a couple hundred miles from where I initially moved. So it's been tough to build a circle of friends from which to draw a gaming group. It what's just about caused me to give up on gaming.

As for the original question...I have to be honest and say I'd have to get to know the person first. If I have to make a decision based on just the info given, I'd have to say no.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

Reasonable chance?

Nope.

I wouldn't even give it an unreasonable chance.

Would he (and I use the gender neutral "he" here) look at me with that empty, toothless expression the whole time?  Because that would be a dealbreaker right there.

:heh:  Out of everyone here, only you would notice that and comment on it, TB!

As for the original question, nope.  I wouldn't give him (the nuetral him) a chance.  My groups have enough quirks than having to play with Toothless McSheman.  He may be a nice person, but that's just too distracting.

I only play with friends as well, but If he knew someone already in my group and wanted to play, well we would give him one session. The  friend in question would be in a world of hurt if this dude turned out to be a nut job :heh:
